Simply growing up online doesn’t make one savvy in flushing out questionable content; encouraging students to challenge a digital text and ask questions about its validity in several ways can help us train students to be media literate during the age of fake news online.

Players control a colon, which jumps and rolls across platforms and over crevices, all of which are constructed from the alphabetic letters themselves. Type:Rider takes the history of typography and places it into a video game space, through which the player progresses at will, picking up bits of facts about each era of typeface design as they play. The representational meaning of letters and punctuation is constructed as a physical game space to navigate, a space in which text becomes image. This study explores the transgressive nature of the gamespace, studying the ways in which the act of navigating space in Type:Rider unmakes meaning and resists interpretation, while at the same time working to conflate form and function through the subject of typography. This study uncovers the ways the design of Type:Rider functions rhetorically, discussing how the “late age of print” interprets the rhetorical impact of typography in our culture.

"Once around the pan," used when adding oil to a frying pan or wine to a sauce, visually estimates the amount of this ingredient, relying on the user to "eyeball it." In fact, most instructional cooking shows on television skip over the use of specific measurements, preferring to give estimated measures or referring to their book or website for "the details," implying that measurement is of secondary importance. In contrast, Alton Brown uses very specific measurements in his show Good Eats, which are supported by detailed explanations of the science behind his method. Here, measurement is of primary importance, allowing for precision and reliability.
