Preliminary formulation of a chemically defined medium for insect cell cultures (original) (raw)

Abstract

A chemically defined medium for insect cell cultures was devised. The medium is protein-free. It consisted of 105 chemicals. In this medium, a continuous cell line from flesh fly, Sarcophaga peregrina (NIH-SaPe-4) could be passed more than 200 times. The medium is useful for studies on nutritional requirements by insect cells as well as for biochemical studies on insect cell cultures.
