The Life of a Canadian Composer Wolf (original) (raw)

8:17a

Reading through a few articles about composers on Wikipedia (notably: Jean Françaix and Bohuslav Martinu), it gives me a great deal of closure to know that composers can become famous without a university degree.

Martinu was thrown out of the Paris Conservatoire for "incorrigible negligence" (translation: he wanted to have his own style)
Françaix' only certification was that he won first prize in a piano competition at the Conservatoire.

Makes me feel good.
