lit_tease - Profile (original) (raw)

Welcome to lit_tease and yes: it IS just as the name implies here. This is a book review community, of sorts, where you can curl up with that new favorite or well worn tome, your computer, and "sound off": the only thing we really ask is that you do so in a thoughtful and spell-checked way please.

What types of book reviews are considered acceptable?

Funny you should ask, because the answer is entirely up to you. This is not your typical reading community and we will likely never all be reading the same book at the same time. What you read and review is entirely YOUR choice.

Were you forced to read The Bell Jar for a class and absolutely hated it? Have you recently written the definitive freshman composition paper on 1984? Share it please. We'd love to read your thoughts on these and more.

Have you actually read the graphic novel(s) of Sin City (or any other graphic novel that Hollywood ever got a hold of for that matter) BEFORE the film(s) came out? After? Tell us about those too.

"But the only thing I've been reading lately is my LSAT/MCAT/GRE/CLA/(other exam type) study guide." Really? Do tell please. You never know, someone else sailing through may be in that boat with you--but on a different deck. How was your study guide helpful? Why did it "suck"? You never know how much a few sentences on the subject could be helping your fellow exam taker out.

Have you previously written book reviews of your own and largely confined posting of them to your own LJ? Feel free to cross-post! We welcome you one and all!

Has the I Ching rocked your socks of late? Does Howard Zinn just really rev your engine? Did The Biography of Malcolm X change your life? Do Shakespeares' sonnets make you feel "all funny inside"? Share, share, SHARE!

Now, with all of that said, A FEW RULES:

  1. This community is 18 and over only--and you are largely on your honor there. Hopefully, we can continue that way, however if it becomes necessary at some future point to verify members’ ages and/or ban people from posting due to non-adherence to this, then the appropriate modifications and arrangements can and will be made.

  2. Play nice: No name calling, insults, or personal attacks of any kind will be tolerated. We're all adults here--let's conduct ourselves accordingly please.

  3. No off-topic postings. And to clarify, off-topic postings include (but may not necessarily be limited to):

**

Personal correspondence

: You have your own e-mail and LJ's for that. Don't take up message board space with it here please.

**

Fic

: Fan or original has no place here whatsoever, nor does "pimping" of related sites. That's a separate activity entirely from the stated goal of this community and there are a plethora of others out there which cater to it. If that is your interest, seek one of them out--do not take up message board space here with it. This also applies to the soliciting of beta services: do not do it here please.

**

Preaching

: This is not the place to win converts to any cause, religion, ideology, political sensibility, lifestyle, etc. If that is your goal in any given review then please do seek another forum for it.

**

Spam Posts

: These include promotional posts for communities, personal LJ's, advertisements, et al. Spam posts will be deleted and the individual making it/them may or may not receive a warning from the moderator prior to being banned. It all depends on my mood at the time. >;-)

********The one and only exception to the "No off-topic posting rule" (because, naturally, every rule has at least one of these) is the posting of news re: book fair and/or literacy type events in your area. You may feel free to post those at any time you wish.

  1. Please spell-check your entries BEFORE you post. Punctuation and grammar checked entries would be greatly appreciated as well.

  2. Reviews of audio books will NOT be accepted for posting to the community.

  3. When in doubt re: any of these or other (as yet) unforseen issues which may arise, feel free to contact the moderator(s) directly via e-mail. That's why the information is made available.

Because the rules are few and you are largely on your honor here re: adherence to them, failure to do so will result in the offending post and/or comment being deleted and the person making it being banned from the community. YOU MAY OR MAY NOT BE NOTIFIED OF THIS--THAT IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE MODERATOR(S) AT THE TIME.
