Hi, new here....but I see it hasn't been an active goup this year. Hopefully that will change.

So I have three wonderful, smooth collies. I love reading, especially books with dogs as main characters. Dean Koontz has quite a few books with dogs as supporting characters. I love those books. (The Darkest Evening of the Year, Breathless, The Taking, etc) Right now I am reading The Search by Nora Roberts. It's a good book, the main character is a woman who trains dogs to do search and rescue. As a child I read all the books by Albert Payson Terhune, about his beloved collies. And while some of his views on people shock me now, I guess it was typical in his time period, the early 1900's. I have also read Lassie Come Home numerous times.

I've also read Marley and Me, like many of you. I have to agree with another post by another member, I HATED how Marley's owners treated him out of their own ignorance of canine behavior. But I LOVED Marley, I have a soft spot for what people term "the bad dog." I usually find that those end up being the smartest dogs after some training.

I read through some of your posts, and I didn't see it mentioned - has anyone read A Dog's Life by Ann Martin? I think it is listed as a young adult, but it is a great book. It is written from the dog's perspective as she struggles through life as an unwanted stray dog. As you can imagine it is pretty sad, I cried reading a lot of parts of the book. But I have read it a couple times because I love the main character, a dog named Squirrel. Has anyone else read it, did you enjoy it?
