The effects of the Preparation variables which are activation temperature, pH and activation time on yield of the activated carbon were studied. Based on the central Composite design (CCD), a two factor interaction (2FI) model and a quadratic model were respectively developed to correlate the preparation variables to the adsorbent yield. From the analysis of variance (ANOVA), the most influential factor on each experimental design response was identified. The predicted adsorption yield after process optimization was found to agree satisfactory with the experimental values. The optimum conditions for preparing activated carbon from Karanja oil seed cakes were found as follows: activation temperature of 487.64 •C, activation time of 2 h and pH 6.91.The characteristics and surface area of the prepared activated carbon were investigated. It was found that the specific surface area of activated was (about 343 m2/g).The XRD analysis have been done.

The application of waxes for any particular industries depends on their properties. In this study the two plant waxes namely Carnauba and Candelilla waxes had been studied for their properties like melting point, needle penetration, drop melting point, flash point, viscosities and densities. The testing were carried out as per ASTM standards. These properties were correlated with the results obtained from the DSC and FT-IR data.

The karanja oil is used as an feedstock for biodiesel preparation and the cake is a waste which is thrown away with no further use, thus this can be used as a feed stock for the preparation of activated carbon. The characteristics and surface area of the prepared activated carbon were investigated. The experiments were carried out with carbonization temperature varied from 400°C to 550°C. The results show that in all cases, increasing the carbonization temperature the yield decreases. It was found that the

The increase in infrastructure development work has increased the demand of explosive in the market. With increase in the production rate the safety involved in the manufacturing explosives has to be closely monitored and incorporated in the system. The quality of the product also has to be maintained so as to get the desired results in the field. This warrants use of automation and introduction of PLC in explosive industry. In this paper PLC based automation and its benefits have been presented.

During the production of PETN lot of fumes containing NOx comes out and also lot of spent acid is generated as a byproduct. This spent acid contains some amount of dissolved PETN in it, before disposing of this spent acid it is heated to decompose the dissolved PETN. Lot of reddish yellow color fumes comes out during the process of heating. These fumes contain NOx which can be removed by using urea and alkali solution sprayed separately in the scrubber. The NOx fumes coming out during the production of PETN can also be removed with the help of Urea and alkali solution. The spent acid after fume off also contains dissolved NOx. This dissolved NOx can also be removed by treating the spent acid with the urea. This paper deals with the removal of NOx from spent nitric acid and also from the fumes coming out during the process of fume off and nitration with the help of urea and alkali.

The Selection of waxes i.e. what type of wax to be used for the particular operation will depend on the properties of the waxes. The most widely used waxes are petroleum waxes i.e. Paraffin waxes and microcrystalline waxes, Other waxes like animal waxes, plant waxes and other types of waxes are used for specialty purpose. The waxes are used in paper industries, food industry, as lubricants and in medical applications. This paper deals with the waxes, their properties like penetration index, oil content, melting point and structural properties using Sophisticated instruments like FTIR, DSC etc.

cast coal and other mines, the Indian coal and other mines are coming under greater
constraints regarding their environmental impacts i.e. Hazards. The problems of NOx have
been increasing in the recent past because of the rapid expansions of the open cast coal and
other mines and also due to the large number of new mines. The frequency and the volume of
the NOx generated have been increased many times and because of this the hazards
associated with the emission of fumes have also increased. This paper discusses the possible
causes and hazards associated with the Emission of NOx after surface blasting.

Since it was introduced by Takashi Osada in the early 1980s, it is believed that applying the 5S techniques could considerably raise the environmental performance in production line including housekeeping, health, safety and more. At JSW the management felt that 5S practice was not carried out properly. Management wanted to identify the obstacle in proper deployment of 5S. Hence the study was carried to identify problems regarding 5S implementation & give suggestions for the same.

very fast rate. The demand of decorative products for interior designing and also for making wood articles is
growing day by day. The competition in the market is growing and to sustain the businesses low cost
alternative raw material is on growing demand. In case of incense sticks lasting fragrance is required and also
the burning rate has to be slow. To deals with this problem we have introduced wax in the Incense sticks
formulations to reduce the loss on evaporation. In our experiments we have studied different waxes for their
properties by conventional methods and sophisticated methods like GC, FTIR & DSC and compared the
properties of different waxes used in the wax polish industries and modified their formulations for cost
effectiveness without hampering their properties. The formulation prepared was compared with traditional
formulations for evaluation purpose.
The incense sticks are made by two methods one is by dipping the raw agarbatti sticks in fragrance compound
and other is by adding the fragrance compound in the masala or incense paste and rolled on the bamboo stick by
hand or machine and dried for 2 days and packed. The problems relating to the latter method i.e. adding
fragrance compound in the masala was that when the incense sticks are kept for drying the ingredients in
fragrance compound which has high evaporation rate gets evaporated hence reduces the smell on the incense
sticks. The above problem has been solved by adding the Wax in the formulation.

The emulsion explosive is one of the important industrial explosives. The performance and stability of these explosives plays an important role in selection of the explosives for that particular use. The structural stability of the water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion matrix of an emulsion explosive determines the reliability of its initiation, safety and detonation performance. The emulsion explosives are manufacture by high speed mixing of Oxidizer Blend (Water Phase) and Fuel Blend (Fuel Phase). The oil and water are immiscible with each other. To mix this incompatible system emulsifiers are added. It is known that the emulsifier is one of the most important factors affecting W/O structural stability. In the present study we have made trials using Polyisobutenyl succinic anhydrides (PIBSA), Polyisobutenyl Lactone (PIBLA) and Sorbitan Mono-Oleate (SMOs). The oxidizer blend and the other ingredients of Fuel face was kept constant or adjusted as per the dosage of Emulsifiers. In this study we have compared the VOD and Density of each explosive made using PIBSA, PIBLA and SMOs.

Gunpowder weapons would have a profound impact on Eurasian states and societies, but historians have found that their application in the eld was both gradual and uneven. The gun powder is also referred as black powder. The current standard for black powder manufactured by pyrotechnicians today is mixture of potassium nitrate, charcoal, and sulphur. The ratio may vary with respect to the application it is used for. The burning speed of this mixture determines its range of application. In this paper we have studied the effect of varied proportion of water on the burning Time of gun Powder.

Pentaerythritol tetranitrate [PETN; C(CH2ONO2)4] also known as corpent, pentrite, pentaerythrityl... more Pentaerythritol tetranitrate [PETN; C(CH2ONO2)4] also known as corpent, pentrite, pentaerythrityl tetranitrate, or rarely and primarily in German as nitropenta or pentrit, is a very stable, powerful and high explosive (HE) commonly used in many electroexplosive devices. It is also used in medicine for the treatment of cardiovascular-related disorders. It is an organic nitrate ester in the same family of high explosives (i.e. the nitric acid esters of polyalcohols) as nitrocellulose (NC), nitroglycerin (NG), and ethylene glycol dinitrate (EGDN) to name a few. It's used as pressed powder compacts or with small amounts of desensitizing additives when used as boosters and fillings for small caliber projectiles. The principal uses of PETN are in the explosive core of industrial detonating fuses, in the base charge of commercial blasting caps, in industrial boosters, in linear shaped charges, and in commercial and military detonators. In this paper, chemistry of PETN, manufacture process and properties has been discussed.
