a little bit of my testimony (taken from a post i made on http://www.godlygals.com/board)

I have been hesitant to bring this up, but I did want to share this with you all. I guess I've never really shared my testimony, and this is a pretty large part of it. It was at this point in my life that I felt God steering me in a clear direction. Anyway. Here goes.

When I was a sophomore in high school it became really clear that I was not fitting into the same mold my friends were. So many that claimed to be Christians were falling away from their faith or it was becoming clear that they hadn't had any to begin with. I was really alienated and ridiculed for standing up for my faith and morals in general. It was a tough time. Most of my emotions I kept pent up and began to fall into deep depression. My life was completely different. I had no one to turn to. My friends were participating in activities regularly that I knew, as a child of God, I had no business being a part of. I desired their friendships again, but not the situations I would have to put myself through to have that. I praise God for giving me the strength to stand up during all of that. He is the only reason I didn't fall. Now, these were my school friends. Since I went to church in a different town it made school life and church life two completely different worlds (which is a story all its own). At the same time, the few friends I had in the youth group at church began ignoring me. This included my best friend. It was traumatizing.

Anyway, I really wanted to share that. Only a few other people know about this because I am not sure how I feel about telling this to people. I just want to thank God for allowing me to do this tiny amount of work for His kingdom. GodlyGals (and godly_gals!) has been such a blessing to me and to many of the girls who have become a part of it. We all devote our time to helping around there so that even just one person might be reached for Christ. As time goes on, it is easy to see that God has this ministry in His hand and that there is a plan for it.

The Face of Jesus cross-posted to godly_gals

Author: Elisabeth Elliot

The Face of Jesus

The face of Jesus:

marred more than any man--
spit upon,
slapped,
thorn-pierced,
bloodied,
sweating,
the beard plucked,
twisted in pain--

For my salvation.

A glorious face, now.

Let its light shine on me, O Light of Life.

Let Your radiance fall on me, Sun and Savior,

Lighten my darkness.

Then grant me this by Your grace:

That I, in turn, may give

"The light of the knowledge of the glory of God" (2 Cor 4:6 AV)

As I see it in the face of Jesus Christ.

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. - 1 Corinthians 10:13

Hi,

So, I'm new and have never posted here before...but I have a favor to ask:

My fiancee and I teach Sunday school for teens in our church (which is rather intimidating--we're only 19 ourselves and have no youth ministry experience! but you do what the Lord leads you to do, right?) and we are doing an intense survey of the New Testament, which has gone quite well so far...but it's getting a little dry and the kids are getting bored.

So my question is: do any of you out there know antedotes or jokes related to or interesting things you've found in studying the gospel according to Luke? I would greatly appreciate it!

In Christ,
Michelle

In a recent devotional by Elisabeth Elliot, she listed 8 questions to ask before a church should decide to boot out a pastor.

(taken from godly_gals and GodlyGals boards)

"Before we take such a position of sovereignty, assuming we know the root of the trouble and are warranted in enforcing our "solution," might we not ask ourselves a few questions? (I do not refer here, of course, to cases which unequivocally call for dismissal, such as immorality or heresy.)

1. Who called this pastor? Was it the bishop? The church? Was the decision prayed over? Do we believe in the Holy Spirit's guidance?
2. Do we understand the shepherd of the flock to be one who bears responsibility and authority? "Encourage and rebuke with all authority" was the apostle Paul's word to a young shepherd (Titus 2:15, NIV). To Timothy he said, "Command and teach" (1 Timothy 4:11, NIV). "Obey your leaders and submit to their authority...so that their work will be a joy, not a burden" (Hebrews 13:17, NIV). Have we respected that divine assignment?

Pray for Hannah Please pray for 17 year old Hannah Sobeski. Hannah was supposed to be a senior at Dorman Highschool in Spartanburg, South Carolina this year. March of this year Hannah was diagnosed with Sarcoma (a type of cancer). She had chemotherapy done at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. She returned home on September 12th. On October 14th Hannah was crowned Homecoming Queen of Dorman Highschool. Sadly though, on October 15th the results of a CT scan came back and Hannah's tumor has doubled in size. She basically has been sent home to die. But with prayer there is hope. God doesnt need Chemo to help Hannah. Please tell your friends and family to pray for Hannah and her family!

For more information on Hannah visit her caringbridge site at: http://www.caringbridge.org/cb/inputSiteName.do;jsessionid=A4E548E5872472BBC567D245BAA4F2D0

Thank You.

The Root of Hostility to Others This was part of a devotional series by Elisabeth Elliot that I thought hit a lot of really good points. Seemed like something to share here. Hope you all get something from it :)

Author: Elisabeth Elliot
Source: A Lamp For My Feet
Scripture: 1 John 1:6-7 The Root of Hostility to Others

When personal relationships break down, it is a sure sign that there is some rift in one's relationship with God. The deeper the rift, the broader will be the effect on the human level. Rebellion against our Creator and Redeemer--against the One who designed us and gives us the breath of life and loves us every minute of every day--is not only unreasonable but outrageous. The sense of outrage will reveal itself in our treatment of others.

We "get at" God by getting at those He has made, especially those whom his providence has placed close to us. We cannot bear the image of God in them, for we cannot bear the ineradicability of that image in our own being. It is a constant reminder of our own sin, which is the violation of the divine image. Without the consciousness of a legitimate claim on our lives, we could not know sin.

To recognize and submit to that claim is to return to peace and fellowship.

"If we claim to be sharing in his life while we walk in the dark, our words and our lives are a lie; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, then we share together a common life, and we are being cleansed from every sin by the blood of Jesus His Son" (l Jn 1:6,7 NEB).
