Econo Lodge Rochester Warning: The Econo Lodge at 940 Jefferson Road in Rochester, New York doesn't have enough non-smoking rooms available, and their other rooms reek of smoke.The man at the desk was sympathetic but not particularly helpful. We had a reservation for Friday night, and I had absolutely not specified a smoking room, but the "only" room he had left was a smoking room. I'd made my reservation online, and he couldn't find it in his computer, so he made me wait while he checked other people in. Perhaps one of those rooms would have been better?He said if I hadn't explicitly reserved a non-smoking room, I should not expect one. The question never arose when I reserved my room, though. I see now, on the hotel's own web site, that they repeat over and over that you should not request a non-smoking room. Is this because they don't really have more than a handful?I don't care if I'm in a room where people have smoked in the past, if the room is properly cleaned. A clean room will be fine. This one badly needed cleaning. It was also right off the lobby, which I have to imagine meant it would have been noisy and unpleasant all night.Luckily, even though this hotel, which is undergoing renovations, was full, the Ramada Inn up the road (within walking distance) was not. They had a non-smoking room, far from the lobby, their hotel was in nicer condition and had an indoor pool, and the room was cheaper. We were very happy there, and we were only a minute away from our friends over at the Econo Lodge. (Comment on this) |

Upcoming vacation My girlfriend Jessica and I will be in West Palm Beach, FL from Dec. 19-26, and Atlanta, GA from Dec. 27-30. I don't know if we'll have time - or Jessica the inclination! :-{)} - but anybody in those areas interested in getting together should let me know, and maybe we can throw back a drink or three.
