Call for "Make in India" and subsequent announcement of various enabling measures created an atmosphere of hope that economy, particularly manufacturing, will be given a new boost. Make in India is a platform in itself for India to transform its manufacturing sector. People and people alone remain the most important catalyst of any process, idea, practice, policy or whatever may be the fundamentally essential factors responsible for the growth and economic well being of a country. The contribution of manufacturing with respect to the GDP stands at 17 per cent. By analysing the response of 321 consumers to questionnaire survey in India, results reveal that belief in material growth is found to be the most important factor associated with the energy conservation behaviour across levels (grey, grey-green and green energy consumers). However, belief in technology is negatively associated with energy conservation efforts to all consumers. However, cynicism does not relate to energy conservation efforts. The results are significant to the agencies designing energy conservation campaigns aimed at modifying energy consumption behaviour of domestic consumers.

If it is so, how come we as a country are not able to attain the stature of many others who have advanced much more than us in industrial sector, economy and other areas? Perhaps what we lack is the capability to work together as a cohesive group, a team spirit so necessary to achieve organizational objectives. We would rather run one another down than join hands for the common good. Quality Circles of late have received the distinction of being one such strategy. Eulogized as the key to Japanese success, the QCs have gained popularity both as a theory involving finer values of creativity and participation and as a practice incorporating scientific statistical methods and analytical temperament. All other countries are finding it worth emulating as it gives rewards countable both in human terms as well as in terms of productivity, quality, and avoidance of other material and human losses. Employee perception about customer power was measured on a 5-point Likert scale from high to low, wherein motives of emotional labour were measured under three categories, namely, prevention motive, instrumental motive and pleasure motive. The study analyses the response of 320 service executives from 5 different type of organizations such as airlines, hotels, nursing homes, insurance companies and banks. The study finds that employee perception about customer power significantly impacts the selection of motive of emotional labour, which in turn was significantly related to the consequences of emotional labour, that is, ‘job burnout’ and ‘job satisfaction’. The study also observes that customer reciprocation towards the display of emotional labour moderates the outcome variables significantly. This study identifies the possi...

Some professionals have clear idea as to what their career anchors are but not everybody. A person can shape his destiny through a series of well planned and positive moves, well timed. People will not accept uncertainty regardless of their status and make their own efforts to structure and interpret the meaning of their commonplace experience of the world. There is a uncertaintity faced by individuals as they start their professional lives. But it is also true that when you know where you want to go, any road will take you there. Career researchers have primarily focused on external motivators associated with organizational factors and material incentives. This study is an attempt to capture and give meaning to this exercise of managing and planning of careers and garner more currency to its application in the development of workforce. This career anchor s tudy reveals the p...

The recent changes in the Regulatory Policy had further fueled the growing unpredictability of the sector. The thought of the business and market implications of the policy changes made Shravan Ragunathan, Founder Director, Retro Energy Private Limited (REPL) fret, and sweat on otherwise a cold evening. He brought his attention back to the last slide of his presentation for the board meeting to be held the next day, and keyed in the quote of Peter Drucker- “The best way to predict future is to create it”. The board meeting was called to review REPL’s business strategy in the wake of the changed business environment. Shravan was expected to present to the board a new strategy- whether to extend REPL’s techno-commercial consultancy services to the international market or diversify domestically. Headquartered at Ahmedabad, REPL- t...
