Zinc stannate nanoparticles were synthesized by green hydrothermal growth technique at 200 ∘ C for the reaction time of 24 h using stannic chloride pentahydrate (SnCl 4 ⋅5H 2 O) and zinc chloride (ZnCl 2) as precursors maintained at pH value of 8. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the phase purity and high crystalline nature of the synthesized sample. The estimated crystallite size was about 12.3 nm corresponding to the most prominent plane (311) using Scherrer equation. Morphology of the sample was characterized by SEM analysis, which confirmed the presence of small size nanoparticles. The optical property of synthesized sample was studied by using UV-visible and PL spectroscopy analysis. The derived optical band gap of 3.94 eV was found to be blue shifted as compared to bulk Zn 2 SnO 4 (3.6 eV), which should be attributed to the quantum size effects. Room temperature photoluminescence spectrum showed emission bands at 397 nm and 468 nm.

The crystallography and optical properties of as synthesised nanoparticles were studied using Xray diffraction, UV-Visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and the morphology of the nanoparticles were revealed via Scanning electron microscopy. The as synthesized nanoparticles were found to be remarkable in inhibiting both gram positive and gram negative pathogenic bacteria. The anticancer activity reveals the dose dependent influence of zinc oxide nanoparticles against human breast cancer cell line (MCF-7). The synthesized nanoparticles
were proved to exhibit excellent cytotoxic effect on breast cancer cell line.

We found that in the combustion process nitrate ions acted as an oxidant. The powder XRD analysis confirms the crystallinity of the synthesized sample with crystallite size of 50 nm for the various doping concentration of 1%, 3%, 5%. The absorbance near UV region decreases with increase in dopant concentration. It is evident that from the photoluminescence spectrum, the PL intensity increases with increase in Cd dopant.

Two well separated peaks were observed in TL glow curves. New scheme has been proposed to measure the dose from two peaks independently.
