[[--LUNAE LUMEN--]] OUT OF CHARACTER discussion (original) (raw)

There are two schedules I drew up, one which has teachers teaching more classes than the other and devides non-advanced classes up by houses (the second, in fact, might even make the non-sensical JKR scheduling work, possibly). However, the important distinction, what class is what day, will not matter your advancedness or the version used. I want some input about which is better before I pick one.

How to read the chart:
Example: "Potions (S,G), Muggle Studies (R,H)": this means that in this period Slytherin and Gryffindor not in Advanced Potions have Potions, and Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff not in Advanced Potions have Muggle Studies. "(AP)" means Advanced Potions students take that class.

People have one guaranteed class a day, plus the electives they choose, plus history on tuesday.

First, the smaller class size one, if you are taking no classes in a period, it's free:

| | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | | | ---------- | ----------------------------- | --------------------------- | ----------------------------------- | ---------------------- | ---------------------------- | | 1st Period | Trans (S,H) | Charms (S,R), History (G,H) | Potions (S,G), Ancient Runes (R,H) | DADA (S,G) | Herb (G,H), Divination (R,S) | | 2nd Period | Trans (S,H), Literature (R,G) | Charms (S,R), History (G,H) | Potions (S,G), Muggle Studies (R,H) | DADA (S,G), CoMC (R,H) | Herb (G,H), Arithmancy (R,S) | | 3rd Period | Trans (R,G) | Charms (G,H), History (AC) | Potions (R,H), Ancient Runes (AP) | DADA (R,H) | Herb (R,S), Divination (AH) | | 4th Period | Trans (R,G), Literature (AT) | Charms (G,H), History (AC) | Potions (R,H), Muggle Studies (AP) | DADA (R,H), CoMC (AD) | Herb (R,S), Arithmancy (AH) | | 5th Period | Adv Trans | Adv Charms, History (S,R) | Adv Potions, Ancient Runes (S,G) | Adv DADA | Adv Herb, Divination (G,H) | | 6th Period | Adv Trans, Literature (S,H) | Adv Charms, History (S,R) | Adv Potions, Muggle Studies (S,G) | Adv DADA, CoMC (S,G) | Adv Herb, Arithmancy (G,H) |

The larger class size one:

| | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | | | ---------- | --------------------- | ------------------- | --------------------------- | -------------- | -------------------- | | 1st Period | Trans | Charms, History | Potions, Ancient Runes | DADA | Herb, Divination | | 2nd Period | Trans, Literature | Charms, History | Potions, Muggle Studies | DADA, CoMC | Herb, Arithmancy | | 3rd Period | | | | | | | 4th Period | | | | | | | 5th Period | Adv Trans | Adv Charms, History | Adv Potions, Ancient Runes | Adv DADA | Adv Herb, Divination | | 6th Period | Adv Trans, Literature | Adv Charms, History | Adv Potions, Muggle Studies | Adv DADA, CoMC | Adv Herb, Arithmancy |

Enjoy! No quidditch schedules were formulated, though.

[Edit: What about the idea of Advanced electives? To populate this we would have two potential methods: Method 1: Put advanced everything on the open slots for thursday. This would spawn up to three very small classes on each elective for advanced work, and though this would make thursday a day with up to 5 (Merlin Forbid) classes, it might be the most efficent use of time, though since these are electives, efficency is not so important. Thursday's electives would then look like: "1: Advanced Elective 2: CoMC 3: Advanced Elective 4: CoMC 5: Advanced Elective 6: CoMC", and students would be able to attend up to two of these Advanced Elective courses, since the other 2 block class would be filled with DADA.

Method 2: Alternatively, on the day of the elective (suppose, in this case, it is Arithmancy) hold an advanced course in the timeslot currently occupied by the other elective on that day, in our case, Divination. In such a case Friday's elective schedual would look like this: "1: Advanced Arithmancy, Divination (R,S) 2: Arithmancy (R,S), Advanced Divination 3: Advanced Arithmancy, Divination (AH) 4: Arithmancy (AH), Advanced Divination 5: Advanced Arithmancy, Divination (G,H) 6: Arithmancy (G,H), Advanced Divination" The nice thing about this is that it allows one to take advanced anything without having 5 courses on one day, which would suck, instead there are only 3. And there is plenty of teacher time for this one.]
