| | I’ve had to speak to a few people around here, neighbors and such, (I am constitutionally not made to talk to people) and the question they always ask, after establishing our names, is: you have relatives up here? As though they are securing the next of kin they’ll have to reach when they find your supine body laid out. Is this a regular occurance? Do people drop like flies here? It’s the recurrence of that question that troubles me. I went for my driver’s license today. Another journey into the unknown. Another new exit and worse, another finding my way back. If I turned left when I exited the freeway, I should turn right to get back on. That’s common sense. Reader, I didn’t. My life is full of u turns. And the DMV? A shy little building tucked in way behind an enormous shopping mall. Now I know where a Macy’s is if I want one. It’s good to know, too, that I’m as unphotogenic as always.Tags:my life, new place 2 I got a haircut. It's a boy cut, the kind a 12 yr old gets for school picture day. I am neat in the head.I found and went into Trader Joe's. It was very busy and probably will be until after the holidays. Impulse buying happened.Tags:my life I’ve gotten out some of the Christmas decorations to cheer myself up. This year I have plenty of room to spread them around. One of the cats likes to dive bomb the shelf they’re on and grab one or two to carry around. They’re just things I’ve collected over the years, couldn’t tell you where from. Cat also likes to hurl things to the ground. I’ve picked up the small pink settee many times so far. The tree is going up after Thanksgiving, as is right and normal. (Though Tkgvg is so late, maybe sooner) It’s artificial and about 4 feet and will finally be able to shine as it should, in a window for all to see. I have a small train set that I could never put out because…rugs! We’ll see if it will drive the cats wild if I arrange it on the faux wood floor. It’s rained here or at least threatened to just about every day since I got here. I don’t mind. I’m not really a fan of hot chocolate but I’ve been thinking about it, what with the chill and rain. I was in Grocery Outlet and I realized it was persimmon season. I don’t know why it always catches me by surprise. But it’s a pleasant one every year. Persimmons!I put some of my art on the walls. I bought some of those don’tleavemarksonthewalls attachers but I’ve had bad luck with those. Then it occurred to me that I’ll be leaving this place in a pine box or body bag or the equivalent thereof and I won’t care about small holes in the wall. Somebody else’s problem. So I nailed a few up and I have more to go.Tags:christmas, my life, weather In CA when you buy gas the nozzle has a piece on the end that catches vapors, but not in OR. So even though it wasn’t the first time I bought gas here, I got a couple of ozs of gasoline that gushed out of the naked nozzle when I stopped pumping. Lesson learned. Careful does it.I went to a new place today. To buy a battery for my car fob. I’m pretty sure I confirm local drivers' opinions of people with CA plates as I careen around suddenly finding the exit or store I want. On the way there I passed Costco and a supermarket chain I need to try. Location noted. If I cancel my Amazon membership later maybe I’ll buy one for Costco. For fun.Tags:my life I put together the bookcase. It went pretty quickly but I’m glad I have a rechargeable screwdriver. Bzzzz and you’re done. The bookcase arrangement isn’t elegant but everything is off the floor and couch. Even some of the cook/bakery books are on the shelves and that table is cleared. The previous owners left some curtains. Neatly folded in a drawer. There were two sets, actually. Some solid ones and also some net ones. Winter and Summer? But there were only three window covered with the solid ones. And, yet, a fourth window. So I looked around on the ‘net and found the exact ones. They’re for a kid’s room and they are sunshine yellow. I like color and I am grateful that they are not, ummm, beige. Color! But I don’t have an iron so my contribution curtain looks rumpled. I’ve decided to not buy anything from Amazon again. It helps that there are so many options here. Some I haven't even hit yet.Tags:my house I found my radio station. There’s a lot of young, white boys telling us how sad they are, but there’s also special programs with big band or blues or soul, if only I remember when they’re on. I got some yarn and am starting a crocheted throw. I was looking for my needles and opened my box and found a cockroach made the trip with us. He died in foreign lands. I usually look who’s for and who’s against. I found a new little shopping center where there’s a bakery that sells crusty french bread. So crusty. I can finally eat that bruschetta from TJ’s that’s been hanging around too long. Now that I’m farther north the dark comes earlier. Soon it will be night at 5:30. Conversely during the summer I guess it will be light longer. I went to another new store, a sort of everything’s-here place, tvs to strawberry jam. The prices aren’t that great but I know where to go for nails and such that isn’t Walmart. I ordered another bookcase because I have some heavy art books that can only go on lower shelves without everything sagging. The cat knocked over a box of spaghetti and I’ve been finding pieces of pasta in two rooms for two days.Tags:cats, my life The previous owners left some clothes hangers with crocheted,,,coverings (I guess you’d call it). They’re hanging in the closet. I found out the cats like them, like to push one around the floor in wild abandon. How they got at any is a mystery. I hope I dropped one on the floor and not that the cats scaled themselves up to the hanging bar and set it loose. It’s a noisy game, best played when I’m asleep or putting off getting up. So far in my travels I’ve been to:TargetKohl’s, a two story store. You can drop off Amazon returns. Grocery Outlet, a dingy place. The one in Red Bluff was classy; the one in Redwood City smelled like garbage in certain aisles. The one here seems to be saving on electric lights but it is adequate to the purpose. There’s a store that sells in bulk, like Costo but no membership, just up the street. Do I need 8 lbs of chicken in one go? Or really big jars of nuts? Still I’m curious.It rained when I was on my way to the stores. Oregonians seemed to ignore it but I used my umbrella, the one I’ve had in my car for years and never seemed to need.Tags:new place 2 I have achieved Walmart. I think I registered to vote. The cutoff date is the 15th and I hope the officials accept the postmark on the envelope as on time. Unfortunately there was that holiday which might delay things. But on the other hand I found the Post Office which turns out to be close.But, of course, I had to hook up the printer first before downloading the application. As a friend used to say, whatever you want to do, you have to do something else first. I had to order a new table for my printer because the former one fell apart during the move. It just gave up.Things are going on shelves. I have moved one of the bookshelves I had in the living room to the kitchen so I’m hoping there’ll be enough room for the books. And the tchotchkes. I looked into getting a new driver’s license. It seems to necessitate a trip to the dmv. And there aren’t any openings in my town but I could go to Eugene. Like, I’m spinning around this town without a clue and you want me to try someplace else?
