Social Entrepreneurship (SE) is; identification of a social problem and a solution for the proble... more Social Entrepreneurship (SE) is; identification of a social problem and a solution for the problem; the evaluation of the social impact, the business model and the sustainability of the venture. This paper is a review of scholarly work on SE and how it creates sustainability of the social mission of not-for-profit organizations. Relevant previous studies have been reviewed and interrogated. The review of scholarly work reveals that Faith Based organizations have taken lead in SE and have obtained sustainability from these efforts. Other private and corporate entities have indulged and excelled in SE, for instance the Grameen bank. Governments e.g. UK, USA, Kenya etc. in their policies have given cognizance to SE for not-for-profits. The findings of this study gives the overall picture that; there is more assurance in the continuity of the work of not-for-profit organizations through the sustainability created by investing in social enterprises. There is opportunity for further research to develop knowledge based numerical evidence on the financial sustainability brought by SE.

Agro-input enterprises play a very important role in enhancing the economy of Kenya. Agriculture ... more Agro-input enterprises play a very important role in enhancing the economy of Kenya. Agriculture being the top most foreign exchange earner in the country and providing at least 25% gross domestic product (GDP) for the nation. The perpetual existence of a firm depends on the profit earning capacity of the firm determined by the turn over and the costs incurred in the process of doing business, which is considered the main factor in influencing the reputation of the firm
Greater attention must be paid to meeting the needs of smallholder farmers, by developing innovative alternatives to the archetypal agro-dealer model promoted by programmes such as AGRA’s ADDP and the Government of Kenya’s NAAIAP program, which focuses on a single entrepreneur capable of running a profitable business from the sale of agricultural inputs to a customer base, which is willing and able to afford them. Agro input enterprises have an opportunity to meet the needs of farmers which are not fully met according to research and hence make more profits.
This paper investigates the business strategies employed by agro-input enterprises to maintain a competitive edge over their competitors. The study will be descriptive and it will be seeking to explore the business strategies being used by agro input enterprises in Machakos Sub County. The researcher will use questionnaires to collect the required data.
The study will be of great importance to; (1) Beginners in business who will use the findings of this research to know the business strategies they can apply into their businesses and their effects (2) To those already in the agro input supplies business on approaches of improving the competitiveness of their businesses (3) To other researchers who will intent to study similar phenomenon in the future. They will be able to find out from this research what has been researched on and what has not.
