It can also be used to post information about auditions/calls for submissions/opportunities in the Ohio area, or to inform others about upcoming theater/film/art events. Many people would say it's silly or stupid to try and create theater and film in a place like Ohio. But maybe you're too young to leave this place, or maybe you're too old to leave this place. Maybe you're going to school here. Maybe you have a regular, full-time job but still want to pursue theater as a part-time passion. Maybe you just graduated from theater school and you're sticking around your home area for a few years to save money/build your resume before moving to a big city. Or maybe you've just decided that you don't want to be one of the 2 billion masses washing up on NY or LA's shores saying "Look at me, I'm an actor/writer/director!" and you've decided that the place doesn't matter and you're going to create awesome theater and film right where you are, dammit..... Either way. Join ohiotheater . Get word out about your stuff. Get word from others. Let's help each other out! (Comment on this) |

_4:02 pm_[todesbanden] | With trembling hands, Lila cleaned the blade of her dagger on an unstained section of the dead man’s shirt- a wasted effort, as her own dress was already filthy with his blood. Damn it, she whispered to the empty air. That man had come from the darkness, from behind her- she’d heard him at the last minute. If she hadn’t had her dagger in her hand when he charged- if she hadn’t been about to kill that rabbit...No, she warned herself. Don’t think that. Just concentrate on the task at hand. If you hide the body well, and do what Hastin told you, nothing will happen. Taking a deep breath, Lila sheathed her dagger and began her Observations. The man- the corpse- was a little taller than than six and a half feet. He had seemed to tower over her when he.... His clothes were close to tatters. On his feet were worn black boots with miss-matching laces, one grey, one brown. His hands were empty. But they were huge. Fighting back nausea and the image of those hands around her own neck, Lila began to undo the buttons running down the man’s shirt. She felt the inside of the cloth, the curve of the collar, and even his blood spattered, hairy chest. It was disgusting, but she did find a tiny, folded piece of paper. Quickly, she removed it and placed it swiftly inside her left boot. Continuing lower, she moved to his trouser pockets, feeling for any other small items that might determine who he was- “Who are you?" came a man's voice behind Lila and a blade suddenly appeared on her throat. Her heart exploded into terrorand a small scream, quickly silenced, broke from her lips. For a split second, she even thought the dead man had come back to life. But no. Most likely this was his partner come to kill her, or worse. Concentrate, something warned from within, and she struggled fiercely to suppress her raw terror. “Who are you?” The partner demanded again. “Who is he?”So, maybe he doesn't know who I am, and who the dead man is. Or maybe he is just trying to trick me. I don't know. I must be careful. “My name is Lila,” she replied, clearly if tremulously, “And I do not know who the man is.”“You’re lying!” the voice growled, and pushed the blade closer into her throat. “No, I am not,” she whispered, afraid to speak to louder less the blade penetrate her flesh.“Then why did you kill him?” There was the slightest hesitation in the voice as if the speaker was suddenly less sure of himself. Lila pursued her advantage, praying to whatever gods existed that he had not seen her hide that note. “He attacked me. I was very fortunate to have my knife out to kill that rabbit.” Very slowly, Lila gestured to her right where the rabbit had been trapped. “It must have freed itself. But as I live and breathe,” Lila whispered fervently, “I killed him only to protect my own life.” “I don’t believe you,” said the unseen man, but it he most likely did. “Yes you do,” Lila retorted calmly, “Otherwise you would have killed me by now.”The sword point trembled, then was cleanly removed from her throat. A hand grabbed her short hair and roughly whirled her around to meet the piercing grey eyes of sternly handsome young man with a bony patrician nose and lips pursed in indecision. “Do not lie. If you lie I will kill you. Did you kill that man?” Lila sighed. “Yes. I did. I already told you that.” He’s as new at this as I am, a stray thought whispered through Lila’s mind. “But only because he attacked you.”“Yes.”“Are you sure?”“Absolutely.”“You don’t act like a woman who has just killed a man,” he said, his hand tightening on his sword and scowling. Lila shrugged “I’m sorry.” “Why were your hands in his trouser pockets?””I was trying to figure out who he was, so that I could inform the proper authorities.Which is truth enough for him, she thought. The man glared at her for a minute with those eyes, then let her go. “All right. I believe you. But don’t try anything.”“I won’t,” Lila promised earnestly, while backing safely away from her potential threat. There was an awkward silence. The man looked at the body, frowned grimly, then back at Lila. “My name is Calder Redlack,” he stated curtly. “Hello, Calder,” Lila replied, managing a smile. People usually liked her smile. But Calder just sort of nodded in acknowledgement. There was another awkward silence as she took another step back. Suddenly, with a crack and a rush, a red-headed thing kareened from the thick weeds, crying "Lila! Lila! Lets go! I saw a Finder, a real Finder, and then-" It- she- froze, noting the presence of Calder. "My, today is full of suprises," Lila observed dryly."Who's he?" the girl asked, gesturing to the bewildered Calder."Calder Redlack.""Is he...you know...safe?" "So far as I know.""Who is she?" asked Calder."Fauve," both girls answered at once. "Fauve Rivers," Fauve added. "What's a Finder?" asked Calder."No one," said Fauve instantly. Lila winced. Calder was not an idiot. He’d know that it was obviously someone."What's a Finder? And why does he want to hurt you?" the young man asked again, his voice growling, his eyes gleaming threat. Shit, Lila thought. Shit and shit and quadruple shit. “Fauve..please go away,” said Lila, smiling sweetly. “Why?” said Fauve, putting her hands on her hips and tilting her head in that annoying way of hers.“Because,” said Lila, her smile tensely broadening.“But...but...where?”“Go..back to town.”“Why?” “Be_cause_...” said Lila, making a curious little head-bob towards Calder.Fauve squinited towards the two of them for a minute, then nodded slowly, then was dashed off as quickly as she came. Lila stared after her for a moment, trying to figure out what to do. “What’s going on?” asked Calder softly. “Who are you?”“What?” asked Lila, distracted.“I said, who are you?”“...Lila,” Lila replied, then turned back to Calder. “You know what? I think you’d better come to town with me.””What?”“Yes. I just think it would be better.”“But I don’t know you.””Exactly. But you will...if you come back to town with me.” “You are extremely strange.”“That may be true,” Lila said, then gestured to the west. “Are you coming with me?”“I...fine. But I don’t trust you.”“Well, I really don’t trust you either. Come on,” she said, and began walking to town without looking back. Calder Redlack followed in silence. Several miles to the north, three men in moss-colored coats waited patiently for a message that would never arrive. (Comment on this) |

_12:22 pm_[todesbanden] | _Erm....this sort of came to me...rather amused me. Just thought I'd write it down before I lost it. It could become something. Or not. Anyway. Here it is._Two complete strangers, a man and a woman. stood over the dead body. They did not speak for a full five minutes."Did you kill him?" asked the woman, as if inquiring where he bought his boots. "No," said the man, shaking his head. "Did you?""No," said the woman. There was another silence. The man looked at the woman. The woman looked at the man. "Why not?" said the woman. And then they made love. (Comment on this) |

_10:24 am_[todesbanden] | another work begun a long time ago but unfinished I won’t not going to give you any “rob-the-rich-save-the-whales”, I steal because I’m cheap and I like ripping people off. Not that I’m a bad person or anything. You’d like me if you met me. Everyone likes me. Hell, even this hermit guy named Karl likes me. I think he’s got me on his speed dial. I dunno, maybe he just wants to get laid. But, like I said, I’m a thief, not a prostitute. If he wants a prostitute, he should call my stepmom. I swear to God, not to put her down or anything, because she’s cool, but she is such a prostitute. She just turned twenty-one last week, and my dad is what, fifty? Sixty? I dunno. I forget. But he’s all bald and wears this awful cheap toupee that must have come from a vending machine or something. I tell him it makes him look like he’s thirty, though, because then he gets all happy and lends me money. Jeez. I hope I never think thirty is like, young. That would suck big time. You know what I hate? Trained monkeys. They’re stupid. Anyway, though, you’d like me, ‘cause I’m clever and subtle. I’m like, James Bond or something, y’know? Yeah. Except, I’m a girl. And I’m American, and I’m sixteen. Or seventeen. I forget. I’m bad with ages. But why do I need to steal? Well, I don’t. My daddy’s rich. I mean, like, seriously loaded. That’s why my slutty stepmom married him. He gave me a Hummer for my birthday. It’s like, a tank without the cannon. That means that if I was ever in a traffic jam, and wanted to spend the rest of my life in prison, I could just floor it and squash all the cars in front of me like bugs. Pretty cool, huh? I don’t want to spend all my life in jail, though. That would mean I’d have to stop stealing stuff. See, I lied. Larceny is more than just a fiscal responsibility, it is a childhood pastime. I’ve been breaking one tenth of the commandments since I was a baby. I’m not lying. Well, actually I am. In fact, I lie most of the time. But at least I’m honest. If people would just let me tell the truth, I would. I’d be all like, “You’re right. You do look like a skank in that skirt,” and “Why yes, I did steal your mom’s earrings. Oh, did you get blamed for that? Gosh, I’m sorry!” But people just don’t react the right way. They get all mad at me and try to turn me in to the police and stuff. Like I said, I don’t want to go to jail, so, I lie. I’m not a bad person, see. I’ve got this code of honor where I don’t steal from smart, alert, observant people, out of respect for their intelligence. I only take candy from babies, because they’ll get fat and get heart problems and die if they don’t start watching their weight and exercising at an early age. And I don’t steal purses from blind old ladies because they’re frail and their stuff smells funny. I think its the formaldehyde. Wow, you are so not convinced I’m not a bad person, are you? I’m sorry. I don’t blame you, even though you’re wrong. But don’t put down my narrative, okay? Or at least burn it right now. Really. I don’t want this thing getting into the wrong hands, you see what I’m saying...? Good, you’re still reading. I’m going to talk about my life now, because I want to. And I promise you that it is 100 percent mostly true. Let’s see. Right now, I am wearing stylish jeans and an Eddie Bauer sweater, but I’ve worn many different things in my seventeen, sixteen, or eighteen years of life. When I was six, on Halloween, I dressed up as as a strawberry-mango fruit drink. Nobody got it. Everyone thought I was orange juice. But in my heart, I knew that I was a strawberry-mango fruit drink. And isn’t that all that matters? Actually its not. What matters to one is how one is percieved by others, right, so, I really was orange juice on my sixth Halloween. Its like a tree falling in the middle of the woods, only with like, Tropicana. But I thought I was a strawberry-mango fruit drink. Like all the other kids, I went from house to house accompanied by my slutty stepmom, who was not my slutty stepmom at the time because she was like, eleven or ten at the time. She was my babysitter. I don’t know why my dad wasn’t there. I’ll have to ask him about that. (1 Comment |Comment on this) |
_9:07 am_[todesbanden] | Lila and Calder...beginning of a scrap of a rough draft Okay, this is a bit of a story I'm beginning that has been in my head for a long, long time now. Just thought I'd put it here, that's what this is for, right? With trembling hands, Lila cleaned her shiny new dagger on an unstained section of the dead man’s shirt- a wasted effort, as her own dress was already filthy with his blood. Damn it, she whispered to the empty air. It had all happened so fast. That man...he’d come from the darkness, from behind her- she’d heard him at the last minute. If she hadn’t had her dagger in her hand when he charged- if she hadn’t been about to kill that rabbit... No, she warned herself. Don’t think that. Just concentrate on the task at hand. If you hide the body well, and do what they told you, nothing will happen. She slid her knife in its sheath on her belt, inhaled deeply, The man- the corpse- was a little taller than than six and a half feet. He had seemed to tower over her when he.... His clothes were close to tatters. On his feet were worn black boots with mis-matching laces, one grey, one brown. His hands were empty, but they were huge. Fighting back nausea, Lila began to undo the buttons running down the man’s shirt. She felt the inside of the cloth, the curve of the collar, and even his blood spattered, hairy chest, finally finding a tiny, folded piece of paper. Quickly, she removed it and placed it swiftly inside her left boot. "Who are you?" came a man's voice behind Lila and a blade appeared on her throat. Her heart exploded in fear and she barely stifled a scream. This was it. This was the dead man’s partner come to kill her, or worse. Concentrate, something warned from within, and she struggled fiercely to suppress her raw terror. “Who are you?” A male voice behind the sword demanded again. “Who is he?” “My name is Lila,” Lila said smoothly, “And I do not know who the man is.” “You’re lying!” the voice growled, and pushed the blade closer into her throat. “No, I am not,” she whispered, afraid to speak to louder less the blade penetrate her flesh. “Then why did you kill him?” There was the slightest tremble in the voice, as if the speaker was suddenly less sure of himself. “He attacked me. I was very fortunate to have my knife out to kill that rabbit.” Very slowly, Lila gestured to her right where the rabbit had been trapped. “It must have freed itself. But as I live and breathe,” Lila said with all the fervent intensity she could muster, “I killed him only to protect my own life.” “I don’t believe you,” said the unseen man, but it he most likely did. “Yes you do,” Lila retorted calmly, “Otherwise you would have killed me by now.” The sword point trembled, then was cleanly removed from her throat. A hand grabbed her short hair and roughly whirled her around to meet the piercing grey eyes of sternly handsome young man with a strong jaw, patrician nose, and lips pursed in indecision. “Do not lie. If you lie I will kill you. Did you kill that man.” “Yes. I did. I already told you that.” He’s as new at this as I am, a stray thought whispered through Lila’s mind. “But only because he attacked you.” “Yes.” “Are you sure?” “Absolutely.” “You don’t act like a woman who has just killed a man,” he said, his hand tightening on his sword Lila shrugged “I’m sorry.” The man glared at her for a minute, then let her go. “All right. I believe you. But don’t try anything.” “I won’t,” Lila promised earnestly, while backing safely away from her potential threat. There was an awkward silence. The man looked at the body, frowned grimly, then back at Lila. “My name is Calder Redlack,” he stated. The last name “Redlack” seemed vaguely familiar, but at the moment Lila could not place it. “Hello, Calder,” she said, smiling politely.
