_11:02 pm_[triphala] | Magickal tidbits So, for those of you who do this sort of work, what little tricks/tips seem to help you ensure the desired result? For me, I have to make sure I block the work out of my mind completely after I'm done, and do everything to "delete," any thoughts that spring up about it in the days to come. How about the rest of you?I'm going to cross-post this in a few places, because I've gotten to thinking about this. (2 Comments |Comment on this) |

_6:37 pm_[aruel] | I need some help identifying this symbol.I saw it underneath my eyelids when I shut my eyes... the drippy bottom bits weren't drippy, just thicker than the other lines, and it was more symmetrical. I feel like it's important. But I don't know what it is. Oh, and if it helps, it was aqua blue against the black of my inner eyelids. It seems familiar to me and some other people. One person suggested that if it were up-side-down it looks a little like how Dagon (Lovecraft's Dagon) is supposed to look. It reminds me of the eye of horus or ra. Someone else was saying something about pharoh type things, but it seems to me more something that may have been influenced by Egypt but is unrelated otherwise.Anyway, seeing as google had failed me after several hours of searching I'm asking readers of this journal thingy. This was X posted from Chaosmonks and my own journal... Current Mood: hopeful (1 Comment |Comment on this) |

_4:25 pm_[andrieh_vitimus] | PC Software needed for experiemetation. I am trying to work on a series of experiementsthat involve constructing nice little techno-industrial songsoh yes this will be very magical in nature.Though I need ACID, Cubase, or some other music looping creation software so my computer so I can create the music directly with the computer.. I might get back into keyboards (12 years piano baby) and if it works the way I think it will, start "doing" industrial music... although thats like saying, I am going to do everything with computers.. and then stand there in front of an audience pressing a key!!! :)Anyone have anything they can share or know a site where I could pick up the software. I just cant afford the 300+ for an experiement...if it works and I like it .. I will get the lastest and greatest thingOf course, I mean to rent or buy the software for people who would think the worst.... Wink wink. And I will freely give out MP3's of the experiements which if they are working SHOULD HAVE an effect.I am not going to go into the details but if you WANT to know what I have planned.. email me at pentilian@gmail.com... I am sure its not the first time its been done.. but who cares, I want to try it anyway.Egor.. get the brains!!!!! (3 Comments |Comment on this) |

_9:29 pm_[dragonscholar] | Magickal Systems as Adaptive Tools In reading Pema Chodron's book "No Exit", Pema, a Buddist, spoke of one of her teachers who proposed a simple outlook:1)View yourself always in a sacred space2)Everything that enters that space is going to teach you something. Even if it's awful.2a) You might as well take the attitude in #2 because whatever shows up probably isn't going away anyway. It struck me that this mindset actually reminded me of a lot of the mentality created by the assertive use of a magical symbol/organizational system, such as the eight trigrams or the Tree of Life. A constent sense of context, of things-in-their-place, provides the ability to classify and learn from events and occurances, even horrible ones.In Chodron's case, she noted the stress-releiving qualities of her "teacher" mindset. This made me wonder if any of the magical mindsets appeared to reduce stress.I myself am experimenting with using the Chinese concepts of yin/yang and the eight trigrams, "stepping inside" them for about six months. I have found that this mindset, a sense of organization, really does help me understand things and reduce stress. It gives context and interpretation.Any thoughts? (1 Comment |Comment on this) |

_2:49 pm_[dragonscholar] | Sigils as forms of Psychological Alteration We all know about sigils (and to an extent, probably have heard WAY too much of them by now). I myself use them, but mainly for personal uses - I find they're psychological alterers par excellance. Stop smoking. Loose weight. Remembering something. The basic idea, of course, is that one is able to compress a desire into a symbol and fire it off, driving it into the unconcious. When I began thinking over the concept, I figured that the most effective target would be the using mind itself.I've found it quite effective, and have even noticed a pattern: in 1-3 days I suddenly recall the sigil. At that point the desired psychological change kicks in. The only sad part is they don't always last.Any thoughts. (5 Comments |Comment on this) |

_7:42 pm_[dragonscholar] | How often do you get "off the magical groove" Just a question - that could be worth deeper discussion - how often do you get off your "groove" - off your practice, meditation, spells, regular schedule, etc? (3 Comments |Comment on this) |

_7:33 am_[dragonscholar] | Kicking an idea around Based on previous conversations, I wanted to pose this question:What non-magical models could one use for Tarot spreads or similar works. I figure we can do a whip-round here for ideas. My ideas so far:The Freudian idea of the Mind (one card for ID, one for Ego, one for Superego). The Four Ego Functions of Jung (which'd be pretty easy to relate to the four elements, as we've seen). The Jungian MBTI test, which I've also seen related (poorly) to the Minor Arcana.Gardner's Multiple Intelligences. There's eight, and I've related them to the trigrams. The major bodily systems - Neurological, Muscular, Skeletal, Epidermal, Digestive, Circulatory, Respiratory. (perhaps toss in Immune and/or lymphatic).Any other thoughts? (3 Comments |Comment on this) |

_9:42 pm_[dragonscholar] | Tarot, psychology, and more. I use my own Tarot Spread for most of my Tarot work, derived for a need for simplicity - place two cards in the center (left to right), which represent the two possible outcomes. Then four cards - top, right, bottom, left. The top and bottom are the axis of the situation, the right and left are the forces acting to manifest the two potentials in the center - the right causing the rightmost, the left causing the leftmost. Finally, a card in the center to represent the reconciliation of both probabilities.I use this model as its simple, effective, and psychologically satisfying, and was derived from looking over the simplest way to do a spread, psychologically.Returning to that thought lately, I began wondering about an interesting idea: Using psychological (and even phyisiological?) models for tarot spreads?Could you do a 3-card reading for ID, Ego, and Superego? An 8-card spread reflecting the MBTI?Just some food for thought. (3 Comments |Comment on this) |

_8:53 pm_[dragonscholar] | An interesting Tarot Deck I wanted to share this with peopleA friend's art project - he created the Major Arcana using fonts only. Based things on some of the GD/Crowley color concepts. A fascinating and interesting idea. (Comment on this) |

_9:02 pm_[dragonscholar] | Kicking some things off So I figured I'd ask what people were up to, experiment-wise. Maybe give us ideas for some work together or share ideas. For myself:BREATH WORK: Before a lot of work stress, I'd managed to do some Taoist Abdominal breathing really well. Returning is hard (I get REAL tense), but I'm using it to explore various breathing techniques, and I am doing some experiments on how padagrims of physical concepts (chakras, meridians, etc.) affect conciousness. The BA GUA: I use a lot of Chinese concepts, so as a way of understanding the Eight Trigrams (seen in the I Ching, etc.), I've stepped "inside" of them for a few months. Studying them, relating everything I can to them, etc. It's another way for me to study how adapting viewpoints affects people. I'd done some similar experiments many years ago in verbal-rewriting.Defixiones: This is a concept from old Greek magic - writing invocations on something, and then putting them in spots appropriate to communicating with the spirit world - usually cureses, on lead, dropped into wells or put in graveyards. I'm experimenting with using them for more benevolent concepts, and in a more organized structure - sort of creating a "maildrop to the gods" as it were.General energy work. I'm using techniques from Mantak Chia and BK Frantzis. (7 Comments |Comment on this) |
