| "Right, then," Fred said once his right hand was handcuffed to George's right hand, George standing just behind him. "I'm taking charge in this one. I'll not have you bugger it up like you did the last challenge." He was still rather angry over that; he hadn't let George make him feel better since they woke up in the hotel's mediroom.George was silent for a moment, biting back any number of retorts. He'd known as soon as they woke up that Fred was Not Amused, and things had not improved since. His efforts to convince Fred of the imperativeness of jumping the skrewt had utterly failed, and truth be told, he felt guilty about Fred's head injury and about failing the challenge. Stupid bloody contest - it was taking away Fred's sense of humor, making things that should have been entertaining into positive tedium. Fred would soften up eventually, though. "Yes, Fred," he finally managed. It was only fair, after all, that Fred have the chance to bollocks one up all on his own. **( Read On...Collapse )Tags:game post, on-camera, players, season 1Mood:mischievous Lightly testing the strength of the handcuffs and finding them as restrictive as they appeared, Charlie sighed. "Muggles have it easy. They've got all those prepackaged things in their groceries - everything from a tube of precut cookie dough you just put it in the oven for a few, to complete and ready dinners in bags. It's pour out onto a skillet and reheat. Practically makes itself. A Muggle version of this would probably be "who can get the most creative with their tub of premade frosting". I've seen my mother make frosted cookies. Takes her a couple of spells to get it right sometimes, and it really takes a lot out of the wand arm." ( the rest of itCollapse ) "Brilliant," Remus beamed. "We're in with a chance on this one."Remus had cooked dinner practically every night he and Snape had shared the apartment. They'd never been able to afford exotic ingredients, so Remus had tended to keep the food simple, but it was still a year's more experience than someone like Lucius "I Kick The House Elves" Malfoy had under his expensive dragons-hide belt."What do you want to make?" Remus asked Severus, testing the cuffs. Remus only had his left hand free, which was a bugger because it was his most awkward side. This wasn't the first time they'd been cuffed together, but it was the first time they'd had to move in unison to cook a meal. "I was thinking a pudding, something with chocolate - Echo looks like the kind of host who'd like chocolate, and she's our judge.""Or maybe a curry." That involved enough chopping to keep Severus busy. Cuffed to him was a Potions Master whose meticulousness would put Britain's finest chefs to shame. Of course, the fact that his dishes tended to taste strongly of eye-of-newt was one of the reasons Remus did the cooking. Not that he would ever tell Severus that.Tags:game post, on-camera, remus, season 1, severus Harry was quite happy. Finally a challenge that wasn't really a challenge at all. Though perhaps not everyone was aware of it, Harry was a skilled cook. The Dursleys had made sure of that when they demanded he cook them most of their meals. "Let's do something simple," Harry said, giving a useless tug on the handcuffs. They weren't going anywhere. Harry's right hand was secured behind his back, which only gave him his left hand to work with. But that wasn't a problem, not even with Lucius' hand cuffed to his own. He was a good cook, and he was going to see this challenge to a successful end. "You know, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, the works." Harry glanced up at Lucius, but didn't really give him time to respond before reaching into the magical food box. There he found all the things he needed for a hearty English breakfast. "Right," Harry said, picking up the carton of eggs, "it's best if you just keep quiet and don't move. Let me do this."That shouldn't be too hard a request to fulfill, Harry reasoned. How could that possibly go wrong? Echo watched the contestants file into the kitchen set. They were looking worse the wear, especially team Snape-Lupin and Weasley-Weasley, but they had all lived through the challenge.Unfortunately. Accidents were good for ratings."This week we'll be focusing on cooperation. Your first task is a standard domestic chore." Echo gestured at the set, a nice mix of muggle and wizard with gas stoves as well as fires and cauldrons. There were five individual stations, all well-stocked with ingredients."Your challenge is to prepare a meal together." She paused, just to give the contestants time to hope it would be that easy. "One of your hands will be charmed behind your back. The other will be bound to your partner's with these."She held up a pair of muggle handcuffs."The fires are spelled not to burn you, but that's it. The knives will still cut, and you can still poison yourselves with your own cooking." Echo grinned, but the smile quickly faded as she read the next cue card. "Entries will be judged by-- oh, for the love of-- I am not eating anything they make."The producer gestured at her from off camera."No. It's not in my contract." A house elf scurried over with a scroll and Echo unrolled it. "... host shall judge all rounds..." She glared at the elf, but he belonged to the network, not her. "Fine. Entries will be judged my yours truly. But keep in mind that while the winners will enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner prepared by world-renowned wizard chef Alphonse Bonikettle, the rest will have to eat their own creations." In the pit, Charlie was grinning. He could hear the popping sounds of skrewts blasting off to his left and some strange rustling behind him. The wobbling platform tipped precariously, the magicked rope was pinching his left wrist in a most uncomfortable fashion, and blowing his hair out of his eyes was no substitute for being able to push it away with an unrestrained hand. Time was continuing its inevitable ticking down, but this was a strangely familiar situation."Nev!" he yelled, watching the blindfold being placed over his partner's eyes, "this is going to be cake! We've already done this, and with dragons, no less, not some scaly worms!"The endless monthly team-building activities, one of Professor-In-Residence Petru's favorite means of passing the time were finally paying off, although Charlie doubted that this is what Petru had had in mind when he was putting them together. "You. Can. Not. Vork. Vith. Dragons. Vizzout. Trust. In. Eech. Ozzer," he would pronounce every third Saturday, gleefully rubbing his pudgy hands together as he unveiled yet another diagram illustrating their next trial. They had sat in lopsided circles and passed around a large ball of colorful yarn. They had grudgingly resigned to falling backwards until they could land in their partner's arms, not dirt. "Veezly! You connect to build human bridge!" Petru would scream, "Not to tickle partner!"One particularly rainy weekend, they had all gathered in Petru's tent to practice some Muggle discipline he had described as "CPR" and which looked suspiciously like an excuse to grab the nearest boy and make out.Remembering Neville's bright pink face and flailing arms when he'd done just that, Charlie laughed."Three steps forward, one to the right, then wait for the skrewt to pass, Nev! Like I said, super-easy!"Tags:charlie, game post, neville George is grinning when his sight vanishes. This is rather like one of their more adventurous bedroom games, and those memories – combined with the knowledge that Fred is currently bound and helpless – make him eager to play. He steps into the pit and starts walking, confident that Fred will direct him. Fred rather liked it when George tied him up, but this was quite different; George had not tied him up, George had to navigate a pit with blast-ended skrewts and other obstacles, without being able to see anything. Not a very good place to be, really, but Fred had high hopes of their getting out unscathed. Fred called out,"OK, George, come straight forty-five long strides, and maybe... fifteen to your right.” George gave him a little wave, and Fred shook his head. “George, there's a screwt forward and to your left, blasting it's arse right at you DUCK NOW!"George hit the ground, still smiling, and felt heat pass over his head and shoulders. This was marvelous fun! "All clear, then, Fred?" He was getting to his feet even as the affirmative reply came; he could hear the creature skittering away. Really, this would be so easy for them; he could have found Fred even if they were both blind. Twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three paces. . . perhaps he could just leave Fred tied up on their way out? That might save them some time later. . .At thirty-seven paces, he had to climb a small wall, and at forty-two he had to circle around another screwt. So that put him three paces to the right, towards Fred. "Only twelve paces more, right?" he called. "Yes, and get a move on!” replied Fred. “The platform is almost to the ground, and there's a screwt coming up on the left. If my legs get singed, you’re not getting any tonight!" George immediately broke into a trot and was relieved when his outstretched fingers hit Fred’s chest. He felt for the ropes and tugged on the knot. "Shall I leave you tied up, then? Save us a bit of time later?" George teased."Do you think we've time for any games, George?" Fred asked. "Screwts, remember? I don't fancy getting my tackle burnt off, if one should come so close, thanks very much." He was smiling, though, happy to have George next to him. He leaned forward and placed a kiss to George's lips.“Oh, fine, then,” George groused, as he started working on the knots. “But on the walk over here, I thought of three new positions to tie you in, and I insist on trying at least two of them out tonight." He released the ropes with a triumphant grin. “So I’ll just keep these, shall I?” He put the ropes in his jacket pocket, and he helped Fred down from the platform with a little bow. "After you, then." Fred started to lead them off, and George followed for a moment. "Hey, Fred, d'you think I could jump one of these buggers?" “No! Not when you can't see, at any rate." He took George's hand and continued towards the exit. "Come on, let's get out of here, so you can tie me up properly back in our room." “But I can hear them! There’s one right over there,” he pointed towards their left, “about eight paces, right?”Fred started tugging now, "George? what are you doing?" "I'm going to jump that one!" George said, taking it as a personal dare. “It’s right there – what, four paces now? Just tell me how high they are.”"No, George, come on, let's just get back." The screwt sent off a blast near enough the twins that they felt the heat of it. George shook off Fred's hand and crouched on his toes, ready to jump. "No, George!" Fred flung his arms around George, and managed to keep George from jumping, but the screwt spun violently towards the noise, and the sweep of its tail hit the twins, who crumpled to the ground in a heap.Tags:game post, on-camera, players, season 1 Harry was not amused. Granted, he was quite happy not to be anywhere near the skrewts, yet, but the fact that he was tied up and couldn't do anything except talk annoyed him to no end. Who came up with these assignments? Harry was convinced that Echo was one of Voldemort's most loyal Death Eaters; only they could cook up such torture, after all. "Lucius," Harry said dutifully. For a moment, he was tempted to lead Lucius straight to the nearest Skrewt and watch how he'd catch fire. Lucius deserved it. He was the world's worst husband. But Harry's competitive side overrode all thoughts of matrimonial revenge. He wanted to win this, so he had to give Lucius the best instructions he could. If Lucius would actually listen to them remained to be seen. "Go straight ahead for about five paces and then make a quick turn left," Harry said, and hoped for the best.Lucius didn't like this particular assignment one bit. Bad enough to be in the middle of a pit of skrewts, worse yet to be blindfolded and in Potter's hands. Five paces. Did that mean five Lucius-sized paces, or five Potter-sized paces? Potter's legs were quite a bit shorter than his. A loud explosion and a blast of hot air against his legs told Lucius a skrewt had just moved somewhere nearby, and any doubts he may have had flew out of his head. The important thing now was to move. With his hands outstretched Lucius took five paces and turned quickly to his left, and immediately tripped over something directly in his path. With a grunt, he fell to the ground in a heap of robes.( Read more...Collapse )**Mood:chipper
There were certain circumstances under which Severus would not truly complain about being all tied up. This situation, unfortunately, was not one of them.He squirmed experimentally, which was quickly deemed to be a Bad Idea (TM). Wobbly platform + Pit full of blast-ended skrewts + The desire to avoid having any part of him singed off = No squirming.Severus tried to cheer himself up while waiting for the challenge to begin. At least this one didn't involve any silly emotional declarations of love in response to a ridiculous question. He gazed down at Remus, waiting for the contest to start."If you die," he yelled down to his partner, "I get to keep the flat."Oh, morbid humour. How splendid.Tags:game post, on-camera, remus, season 1, severus Echo stood in front of a wide shallow pit. A platform floated over the center, gently bobbing four feet off the ground, and low walls and other random obstacles littered the pit's floor. A dozen blast-ended skrewts were skittering angrily around the pit, attacking the walls and each other and anything else they came across. Three of them went off with loud bangs by the time the contestants had assembled. The couples were starting to look a little tense, Echo noted."We're about to begin the final challenge of the communication round. This challenge will test your commitment to each other."Charlie, Harry, Snape, Sirius, and Fred have drawn the hot seat. Each of them in turn will be bound and placed on the platform. Their partners--" Echo nodded at Neville, Lucius, Remus, Kingsley and George. "-- will be temporarily blinded and lowered into the pit. Your task is to navigate the pit with only your partner's voice to guide you, rescue them from the platform, and untie them. The freed partners will then lead the blinded one back to the edge of the pit. You must do this all without magic. The challenge is won when both of you are back at the start."Oh, and gentlemen? The platform will lower an inch every minute." Echo grinned. "Good luck!"[Charlie and Neville roll a 6. Their rescue goes of flawlessly.Harry and Lucius roll a five. One of the skrewts surprises them, and they fail to make it back.] Kingsley stuck his head in the private Floo connection and called out "Ollivander's!"A young man - Ollivander's son, Mauritius - stuck his head in on the other side. "Hallo, Kingsley Shacklebolt, innit?" he asked, smiling charmingly. "What can I do for you?"Kingsley's expression did not change. "I need to buy a spare wand. Do you have any bamboo with dragon heartstring available?"Ollivander, Jr. raised an eyebrow but nodded. "Four different ones," he said. "Two are Chinese bamboo, two are Japanese bamboo... dragon heartstring for the Chinese come from a Welsh Green and a Chinese Fireball, respectively, and for the Japanese-"Kingsley cut him off. "The Chinese bamboo with the Chinese Fireball heartstring," he said decisively. Sirius had mentioned that part of his family had Asian ties... Chinese, specifically. The wand may not be perfect, but it would be much better than nothing."I have to register that you purchased another wand," Mauritius said, reappearing with the box in hand. Kingsley waved his hand. "That's fine," he said. "The Ministry will approve it.""For their top Auror, I'm sure they will," Ollivander agreed. "Shall I charge it to your account, then?"Kingsley nodded, shaking embers around his head."Okay, I'm sending it through." With a strange sucking noise, the wand box popped through the fire, nearly hitting Kingsley in the face."Ta," he said, picking up the box. "And Ollivander? I'd appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone that I ordered this wand."Mauritius raised an eyebrow but nodded. "You have my discretion," he promised. As the flames died down, Kingsley sat back and turned to Sirius, who was sitting on their bed."A new wand for you, love," he said, holding the box aloft. After the near-disasterous obliviation by Harry a few days prior, Kingsley had decided that it was time to get Sirius a wand again. He didn't want his lover to be left defenseless ever again. He couldn't protect him everywhere he went, now that they were out of number 12.Mood:devious
Remus and Severus were quiet as they returned to their rooms after the second task. Four out of six possible correct answers, while similar to the other teammates, was still fairly impressive. Yet Severus' answer to one of the last questions had Remus apprehensive about going to be alone. With the thin walls and close rooms, he didn't want any fighting to be going on when they were meant to be proving how perfect for each other they were.As the door swung shut behind them both, Remus agonised over whether or not to say something. It was like being in high school again - no, worse, it was like the tentative beginnings of their relationship when all they could do was try and fumble their way through emotions and understanding.Remus sighed, and collapsed into a chair. Unwittingly, he was showing the exact signs of being ill-tempered that Severus had listed earlier. At least there were house elves to take care of dinner."So," he said in an even tone. "Is now later?" He wanted to snap something about having to do everything in private, but he was a fairly private person himself, and the fact that Severus was even on the show was a miracle. Instead he just stared at Severus with both eyebrows raised (he had never really mastered quirking just one) hoping that his open stare would put the other man off his guard. Echo sauntered over to the other podium, and batted her eyes at Snape."Your turn, gentlemen. We asked your partners these questions, and I have their answers here."Severus, Charlie, George, Harry, and Sirius:"What did your partner say was the one thing you both agree to never discuss? "We're about to begin the question round, where we see just how well you and your luuuuuuuuv bunny know each other." His stomach was still a bit queasy after the disastrous display Potter had put on the evening before, and the sight of food had made him feel positively ill. He was still shaking the sand from his hair as he rounded the corner to the wading pool. "All right, Black," he said curtly, wondering what on earth had possessed him to meet with Black in the first place. "What do you want?"Tags:lucius, non-game post, off-camera, players Kingsley frowned at Echo. He decided that if worse came to worst that he could probably snap her with one hand. Or, even better, just use a silencing charm on her. Too bad no one else had thought to do that.Kingsley wasn't much of a talker anyway, and Sirius had been pretty quiet since he'd emerged from behind the veil. They didn't have to talk most of the time... it was easier this way.Kneeling on the sand (and displacing a fair amount of it in the process), Kingsley ripped the box open with one swift movement. He pulled out the instructions and handed them to Sirius, pointing.Mood:creative Harry stared at their assigned box as though it was about to jump up and eat his throat out. If this was the kind of challenge they were facing for three weeks to come, they could just as well kill him and his husband right then and there. Harry recognized that box. Harry knew what horrors lay within it. Harry had seen the perfectly stable if not very affectionate marriage of his aunt and uncle almost collapse under the stress of purchasing one such boxes, taking it home, and then trying to put the contents together. It had been a black, black day in his life at the Dursleys, and he'd paid for it (even though he hadn't actually done anything, as usual) with three straight days spent in his cupboard. Harry glanced up at Lucius and swallowed. He doubted Lucius understood the terror before them. This was a Muggle thing, for as far as Harry knew. And now Harry had no way of telling Lucius they'd better watch their every move around this new adversary. As Harry kept staring at the cardboard monster, he did notice everyone else had already started on their projects. Well, damn. Here he was. The savior of the wizarding world. The boy who'd killed Voldemort. Afraid of Scandinavian furniture. Not in his lifetime. Harry squared his shoulders, and very bravely kicked against the box so it fell over. He kicked it again, and again, until most imitation wood had spilled out across the sand.Glancing at his husband, Harry was pleased to note they weren't trying to kill each other yet. So far, so good. Harry crouched down, taking in the many different sizes of wood. He didn't even bother looking at the instruction sheet, knowing that would only make things much, much worse. He'd seen what it had done to his aunt, after all. She'd never quite been the same since that afternoon. Sighing, Harry took a few minutes to take in the strange shapes and sizes and then wanted to tell Lucius what he thought it was supposed to be. But they couldn't talk, of course. So Harry, always the practical one (it had taken quite some practicality to finally kill Voldemort) reached for his wand and started writing in the sand. _BED?_He glanced up at Lucius, feeling both hopeful and utterly doomed.Mood:uncomfortable
Fred strolled over to the last remaining box, walking around it to survey all sides before waving for his twin to join him. Pulling the lid off the box, Fred peered inside; he then tipped the box so that the contents spilled into the sand. The first thing he picked up was the instructions. He gave them a look over - hard to read, nevermind the fact that it was in a language he didn't know - and tossed them aside. _Who needs instructions, anyway?_He looked over to George, who was watching the other contestants, and threw a screw at him.Tags:game post, on-camera, players, season 1 "..."It was Remus’s natural instinct to say something on occasions like this, something jovial and British like "let’s get to it then, shall we?" But he opened his mouth and nothing came out, the muting spell making him feel like he was pushing his words against thickened air.He chanced a glance at Severus and immediately decided that perhaps he should take a look at the box first. He approached one of the boxes and dragged it over to Severus, a little away from the other contestants. It was probably better to focus on the task at hand than watch what Harry or Sirius were doing. The box was easily opened, and Remus began to pull out piece by piece of the imitation wood, studying their shapes intently. Was it a bed? Maybe a complicated desk? Remus had never really thought about furniture being all separate before, and was surprised to find out how much of it there was. He placed the pieces neatly in groups according to their size and similarity. The rest of the items were at the bottom of their box. Remus took one look at the instructions and waved them at Severus. Perhaps if they could find something to write with they could use it to communicate? He mimed writing on the paper. Then he pointed at the pieces and shrugged as if to say "I’ve got no bloody idea." Then he saw Severus’s expression and stopped miming altogether.Tags:game post, on-camera, remus, season 1, severus Previous 20 EntriesTop of Page | |
