Materials and Methods: The study was a cross sectional study which included 205 Medical students and 247 engineering students between 18-21 years of age from Kanchipuram district. The questionnaires were given to the students which comprised of 33 questions related to emotional quotient and 60 questions related to personality. The emotional quotient was assessed by using Emotional Intelligence scale and personality by Neo 5 factor inventory form. Results: There was a significant difference in neuroticism, openness to experience and conscientiousness among the medical and engineering students with respect to their course of study. There was also a significant difference in the neuroticism as they advanced in age. Conclusion: Medical students have lower neuroticism and conscientiousness levels and are more open to experience than the engineering st...

On examination, the patient was febrile, icteric with tender hepatomegaly. Total leukocyte count and liver function test were raised. Serum bilirubin was elevated. USG abdomen showed 5x6x6cm, heterogenous, hypoechoiec lesion with internal cystic areas with peripheral calcification in right lobe. Cect abdomen (Figure 1a) showed daughter vesicles and MRI was suggestive of hydatid cyst. Patient underwent laparotomy wherein calcified hard cyst in the 5th & 6th segment of right lobe was found. Cyst fluid and daughter cysts were evacuated (Figure 1b) and 5% povidone iodine was instilled into cyst cavity for about 10min. Cpapitonnage was done by obliterating cyst space with vascularised omentum. Post op was uneventful. Patient was followed up for six months and it was uneventful.

A 23-year-old female presented with tender parotid swelling with mild compressibility. Diagnosis was made by ultrasonogram and confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. Facial nerve preserving surgical excision of the superficial parotid gland with infiltration of foam sclerosant was done.

Racemose type is a rare and aggressive variety associated with increased morbidity. It is characterised by presence of multiple confluent of cysts in the ventricles and subarachnoid space. This is a case report of a 36 year old male, farmer by occupation who was diagnosed with racemose type neurocysticercosis of the 4th ventricle with obstructive hydrocephalus. Emergency ventriculo peritoneal shunting followed by excision of the cyst was carried out successfully. Unlike parenchymal type, antihelminthes is contraindicated in intraventricular NCC prior to removal of the cyst as it leads to ventriculitis. This case is being reported due to its rarity and paucity of literatures on racemose type of neurocysticercosis affecting the 4th ventricle.

Volume 5, Issue 2, Mar - Apr 2019

Two patients with a traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the superficial temporal artery were examined by physical examination and histology of the excised lesions. Blunt injury caused a histologically proved pseudoaneurysm in two reported cases. A total of 12 additional reports of pseudoaneurysm of the superficial temporal artery were found in the literature. Pseudoaneurysm of the superficial temporal artery is an uncommon complication of blunt head injury. Symptoms are limited and diagnosis can be made by noninvasive means. A high suspicion level for arterial injury and sufficient follow-up of patients is necessary for the detection of arterial injury.

Adults to some extent are able to cope with it. But the young chaps are put into more stressful situations by the society. They find it difficult to handle it at a very early age and end up being a victim of various addictions. The aim of the study was to survey the prevalence of stress among the medical students and their choice of preference to alleviate from stress. Methods: The study was a cross sectional study of random sampling method with a sample size of 100 medical students belonging to age group 18-21 years. Informed consent was obtained from each individual. The study was cleared by the ethics committee. The stress level of each participant was assessed using the student stress scale questionnaire. Results: Of the 100 students who completed the questionnaire, 38% of the students belonged to the ‘no stress’ category, 51% fell under ‘mild stress’ category, 8% under ‘moderate stress’ and 3% under ‘severe st...

Of the 62 students who showed certain degree of stress levels, 47 (76%) students prefer music as a choice for relief from stress and 15 (24%) prefer other modes of relief such sleeping or talking to a friend, etc. Conclusions: Medical students are prone to a lot of stress during their course of study and music is the preferred choice for most students to relieve them from stress.
