kenny2fl **03:49 pm - bouzouki**Does anyone have suggestions on the best way to purchase a bouzouki? I went in the guitar store and the wise-guy said they don't sell firearms.I am reluctant to lay out the dinero without seeing / touching / playing first. Also any opinions versus an octave mando?

mrnotaboy **06:00 pm - A New Player Approaches!**Hey guys, name's Z. I was wandering about LJ when I found this little community and decided to join c:I've been playing mandolin for over a year now. I use to take celtic-style lessons but decided to go solo recently to explore different genres of music. So chaps, I've got a question for you guys. Does anyone have any experience with/information about Madera mandolins? I've been rocking a Madera A5 since the beginning and it's great, I'd just like to know a bit more about my Rose Mary (ha ha, is anyone else enough of a geek to name their instruments?)Current Mood: amusedha ha ha is anyone even here?

stratkitten 04:46 pm - Ah, introductions... Hey everyone! I am a novice at best (my primary instrument is guitar) but I am really enjoying learning on the Fender I play every day (my experience is that it's been a pretty good model to learn on) and a couple years ago I inherited a very old mandolin that's in great shape and has been in my family for a long time. I saw this community so I thought I'd say hi and join! Hope to hear many interesting conversations :-) Love and Cheers, Kai

the_maha 06:09 pm - We ride with kings on mighty steeds.Ahoy, all. I've recently become interested in mandolin. I've been looking to buy one as I have played a few that my friends own. I've been looking for mandolins on musiciansfriend.com. I have around $300 on my hands at the moment and I've read reviews on the Fender mandolins, but some have said that the Rogue mandolins were just as good or better, and for far less money. As a bass guitarist, I haven't heard many good things about Rogue bass guitars so I'm a little skeptical about the quality of their mandolins.Help me!Thanks :]Current Mood: curiouscuriousCurrent Music: Tenacious D - History

I want to pick up some mandolin specific albums to listen to, and immerse myself in the instrument and all it has to offer. himaro419 12:41 am - chordsHey everyone.I am a beginner mandolin player, and I also play the fiddle. I find picking to be very easy, and chords as well. I just have a hard time remembering the chords. Is there any good website that anyone knows of where they show you all the chords. Sort of a guideline that I can print out to use while I am practicing at home. Thanks!- HillaryCurrent Music: Crooked Still

consummatum 07:43 pmWhat's the neatest and/or 'least predictable' form of music/group/genre/etc you've incorporated mandolin in or heard it incorporated in?(And yes, I realized that was quite possibly the most poorly formed sentence ever written, but I'm having trouble with words and think you all know what I mean anyhow. :P) xposted once.Current Location: SoFlaCurrent Music: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

esteponero **10:49 pm - Pickups**Hey folks,I was wondering if anybody had some good suggestions as to good acoustic pickups for mandolins. I just got a new mandolin that sounds a whole lot better than my old mando-in-a-box, and I'd like to get something better than what I've been using. My old pickup is an cheap stick-on type that was only about ten bucks. Anybody got any suggestions on what works or where to find more info? I play in a band so I need something that will allow me to be heard over those noisy guitar-player types. Thanks.Chris
