Gerry Canavan completed his dissertation “Theories of Everything: Science Fiction, Totality, and Empire in the Twentieth Century” in the Duke University Program in Literature under the co-direction of Fredric Jameson and Priscilla Wald in Spring 2012. He has recently published two articles on race, violence, and utopia in zombie narrative in Extrapolation and Science Fiction Film and Television, as well as an article on the apocalyptic imaginary in Margaret Atwood’s environmental disaster novel Oryx and Crake. He is the co-editor (with Ryan Vu and Lisa Klarr) of a special issue of olygraph devoted to ecology and ideology, and the co-editor (with Priscilla Wald) of a special issue of American Literature on “speculative fictions.” He is now editing an anthology titled Green Planets: Ecology and Science Fiction with Kim Stanley Robinson, forthcoming from Wesleyan University Press.
