A man from Center was arrested Tuesday after Marshall police said he crashed into a Texas Department of Transportation truck while fleeing officers.
Police received a call at approximately 3:45 p.m. Tuesday that a reckless driver was traveling northbound on East End Boulevard, which is U.S. 59.
When police arrived at the intersection of U.S. 59 and Loop 390, officers saw the driver and attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver pulled off to the shoulder and appeared to be stopping his vehicle.
“As officers approached, the driver sped away and ran through the intersection at Loop 390, striking a Texas Department of Transportation truck,” officials with the Marshall Police Department said in a statement.
Craig Alan Borders, 54, and the driver of the Texas DOT were taken to the hospital to treat non-life threatening injuries. After being released from the hospital, Borders was arrested and taken to the Harrison County Jail and charged with driving while intoxicated, evading arrest/detention with a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.
“Thank you to those who called to report the reckless driver. Prompt reporting from the public helps officers respond quickly and keep our roadways safer for everyone,” Assistant Chief of Police Jeff Boyd said in a statement.
