A boil water notice is in effect for part of South Marshall following a water line repair Monday.

As part of a project to repair a 16-inch water main, a planned water outage took place in the area of U.S. 59 South and Texas 43 (Pinecrest Drive). This includes the Scenic Loop area between Pinecrest Drive and Bell Street.

Contractors tied into the newly constructed line that runs under U.S. 59, and the project was completed in less than an hour Monday night, city officials said.

The project resulted in low water pressure in the area surrounding the repair, requiring the city to notify affected customers to boil their water prior to consumption. Children, seniors and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, city officials said.

People should boil and then cool water before washing their hands and face, brushing their teeth, drinking, making ice and cooking. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

Instead of boiling, people can purchase bottled water or obtain water from a source suitable for human consumption, city officials said.

City officials will notify residents when the boil water notice is lifted. That will occur following lab testing, city officials said.
