I realize I haven't updated here in a month, and have been trying to think of what to write. Aside from 'Hey, I'm not updating much here because less than 10 of the 50 people on my friends list update with any frequency.' Which isn't very nice, but true. :< I blame it on too many social networking sites nowadays, especially since I am checking Facebook and Twitter more along with a few other blogs.
But people who have been following me on Lucidia or Twitter may have heard me make a few comments about Challenge Mode. Or not, because I imagine in the chat most people see me posting and go "Oh, there is that crazy mod again with the weird comments." Which I am okay with. We don't all need to be sensible, and I have been severely sleep deprived lately. But since I can't get my brain out of Challenge Mode, I thought I would describe it here.
Challenge Mode is a thought I am toying with for Lucidia Fantasy. It basically amounts to someone else knowing and looking over your characters, then from there deducing common themes that you use with your characters. From there they create a character for you that plays on those weaknesses, or the character traits that you avoid.
An example would be (and I feel bad using this example) is that Benor tends to play very stable characters who are physical powerhouses in their own way, and who are also generally on the side of good and are usually male and human. At the time the opposite of this was a character I was developing, a lioness demon or succubus with magical powers and probably an evil personality of some type.
Another example would be myself. I think I tend to play high powered characters who are usually anthros. I avoid physical fighters because I don't want to get into a brawl in the chat because I think RPing fighting with no mod always ends badly, and I think I suck at roleplaying a fight. :P I also think that my characters only come in two flavors of personality, quiet and not-very-social, or outgoing and chatty. You could say this just boils down to introverted or extroverted, but I think there are more modes of personality than this. I realized however that I attempted to make a Challenge Mode character a while ago, just I didn't port her over to Lucidia. That person would be Lydia Rothschild. Young human, kind of stressed out, only one real, non-versatile power. She was also meant for superhero RPs, so she would get a little bit of fighting in too.
So why am I mentioning this? One of the reasons is that I want to know if others think Challenge Mode will work as a thread/challenge on Lucidia if I put it up in a post. There are a lot of negatives to this idea. One is that you have to fess up to a lot of your alts if others don't already know them. The other is that you might not like what people have to say about your characters. You both have to be able to take and give constructive criticism. I'm not sure how much I trust some players to play nicely with others. The last issue is that you are putting all this effort into a character that you yourself will not be playing, and you have to be able to both let go of that character and be okay with however the other players uses that character. That doesn't mean the other player can automatically drop them in a deathtrap either. :P
I do however think the concept has some positives. The first is helping you as a writer learn what your weaknesses are. Sometimes we just need that little shove to improve ourselves. The other is that it allows you work through those weaknesses or play something you wouldn't have normally played or created for someone else to play. It lets you stretch more as a creative person, trying new things. And as much as it could be bad for community building, it could also be just as good for it to let people into your creative process so openly. To try to build a character with someone else that matches them well enough so they can play the new idea.
Now what is the second reason for me mentioning this? I honestly cannot turn my mind off of looking at individual player themes now. I was struck today when I was thinking about someone's character and going "Oh! The underlying theme is guilt or secrets! I see it now!" It is just weird to stumble into when you aren't even trying to see what ties things together. So I apologize if I am hyper-analyzing your characters now. I am not necessarily trying to.

This is bloody amazing. The YouTube description does a better job of explaining than I could.
"Kseniya Simonova is a Ukrainian artist who just won Ukraine's version of "America's Got Talent." She uses a giant light box, dramatic music, imagination and "sand painting" skills to interpret Germany's invasion and occupation of Ukraine during WWII."

Hello there, gamers!
Apparently it was announced yesterday that the beta for the North American release of "Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine Online" is now open to applications! That's right folks, this is an honest to goodness MegaTen MMO. And in English, no less! So if you want to sign up, you can do so here. Also keep in mind the game is free to play. I think that adds a nice extra bonus.
I am so going to need a new video card if I want to play this. *sigh*

I might be getting on the internet trend bus late, but did you know that there are Muppets with their own YouTube channels?
Sam the Eagle has his own YouTube channel. Patrioticeagle, of course.
Among the rocket exploding today there are been other things going off. My brain has certainly melted from two things today, and my legs are also gone since I did a one hour bike ride. Good times.

I realize I haven't said much publicly about dust_and_dreams death, mostly because I find it hard to say something that hasn't already been said.
However, I have noticed that I don't like to sit around like a lump. I've been thinking about what I can do, and one thing I noticed is that tributes to her are pretty much scattered. They are on LiveJournal, DeviantArt, the MZDM, the Gryphon Guild, and even Tegaki E.
Katie touched a lot of people's lives, and I was wondering if a hub site for all these tributes would be a good thing. I do have my own website where I could collect all the links, but I wouldn't be adverse to hosting this somewhere else.
Basically I wonder if anyone else things this would be a good idea, and if anyone minds that their thoughts and artwork end up in a central place (Obviously anything locked or privatized wouldn't be collected without permission).
I think it is a good idea, because it would give her friends and family a place to see how Star... just touched the lives of people all over the country and possibly all over the world.
If I get some general consensus for yes, feel free to spread the word.
