Summer Reading - Meg Cabot (original) (raw)

Summer is still a couple months away (how do these seasons and holidays keep sneaking up on us like this?) and there’s already so much great stuff to look forward to!

But before we get into that, I have to give all of you a great big thank you:

Thanks to all of you who purchased The Quarantine Princess Diaries!

Honestly, so many of you bought personalized/signed copies of the book through Judy Blume’s non-profit bookstore, Books and Books, here in Key West that they almost ran out of copies (only almost!).

I’m especially thankful because when you buy a copy of this book, you’re supporting a great cause: 10 percent of my English language author royalties go to VowForGirls.org, the international organization to end child marriage founded by real life Princess Mabel van Oranje of the Netherlands!

The book is available in all US and UK territories now (according to my publisher), and as soon as I find out about its publication date in other territories/countries, I’ll update you!

There wasn’t a book tour for Quarantine Princess Diaries, but there will be for my next book (more on that below).

What there IS going to be is a special appearance at this year’s Granfalloon on June 10 in my hometown of Bloomington, IN!

[*UPDATE ON THE GRANFALLOON APPEARANCE: POSTPONED DUE TO UNFORESEEABLE CIRCUMSTANCES*]

I’m so honored to have been asked to give a talk and signing at Granfalloon (an annual celebration of art, ideas, and community). Tickets for my talk are available now!

I’m especially excited to be giving a talk in the same theater where I saw Star Wars for the very first time when I was 11. In the same place I first met Princess Leia, I’ll be talking about my own princess–Mia!

What I might not be able to talk about at Granfalloon is any new Princess Mia-related film news, because if the Writers Guild of America can’t reach a new contract agreement with the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers, there’s going to be a strike that could hold up filming!

(This strike is for TV/film writers only. But if it happens, I’m supporting the strike because everyone deserves fair wages. I’m thankful the strike at HarperCollins was settled in favor of the workers!)

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t other great movies coming out this summer. From the release of the long-awaited movie version of Judy Blume’s Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret (readers: I saw it. It’s so good) to Joy Ride (really looking forward to this based on the trailer) to the Barbie movie, it’s shaping up to be an incredible summer for female-centered film entertainment!

As far as books go, the publishing industry is booming–despite all the book bans you might be hearing about (yes, that was me last month on MSNBC’s #VelshiBannedBookClub, talking about the banning of Ready or Not in Florida).

The book boom is why you’re going to see the release of another completely new adult book from me this summer!

Shhhh, no spoilers yet. I’ll be giving a sneak peek at Granfalloon! But here’s a clue:

In the meantime, stay safe, and keep reading!

More later.

Much love,

Meg
