Listens: after fire-- vnv nation

A couple, very different in tone.

Crowley stared.

"Where'd it come from?"

"The pet shop, of course," Aziraphale said, not looking the least bit perturbed as he fawned over the bookshop's newest resident. "I'd rather I didn't have to feed him mice--it doesn't seem quite fair favouring one of God's creatures over another that way, you know--but it's all a part of nature, I suppose. Isn't he lovely?"

Something about the way Aziraphale looked positively enchanted as the snake curled itself around his hand made Crowley's insides go all funny.

"Brings back memories," he said, when his voice finally decided to return.

Aziraphale smiled.

Poland, 1942. Sobibor.

"I thought this was below even you," Aziraphale said bitterly.

"I didn't do it," Crowley said.

"Who else?"

Crowley said nothing.

Aziraphale was getting angrier with every word. "You expect me to believe it was just a coincidence? I'm not _stupid_--"

"I said, I didn't fucking do it, all right?" Crowley snapped, half-shouting.

They glared at each other.

After a moment--

"I'm sorry," Aziraphale said, all the heat gone out of his voice. "I believe you."

Crowley stared sullenly at the cold, gray cement, the cruel barbed wire.

"I was never this good," he said dully.

My teeth hurt. Ortho appointments are the SUCK.
