I'm not commenting on the content of these posts, just collecting them to keep an eye on things. My initial reaction was pretty rage-filled, but I would advocate reading these two very reasonable responses, as they helped me gain a broader perspective:
elynross: About the latest LJ suspensions/deletions
synecdochic: "The solution to bad speech is more speech." Unless you're living in the United States.
Personally, I am working on a huge long letter to feedback@livejournal.com expressing my disappointment in certain aspects of the service I've paid for--not because I expect it to change anything, honestly, but because it'll make me feel better--but it wasn't spurred by this or anything else fandom-related, really. LJ's done some things I'm not happy with; combined with some changes to what we fans see as our happy place, it's no wonder people are upset. But I don't want to jump up and down and shout, "How dare you!!!" (even if the part of me that's very personally/emotionally attached to LJ has that reaction); I just want to say, "Look, I'm a paying customer and a loyal one, I have some issues with the service you've sold me, and if you're a professional organization you'll take that into account."

In things I can be unabashedly furious about: Please Sir, can I have an abortion?
As written, the bill would ban women from seeking an abortion without written consent from the father of the fetus. In cases where the identity of the father is unknown, women would be required to submit a list of possible fathers. The physician would be forced to conduct a paternity test from the provided list and then seek paternal permission to abort.
Fuck. That. Noise.
Submit a list and/or get a signed permission slip? Are you fucking kidding me?? Is there any clearer way to say, "We have absolutely zero regard for a woman's privacy, dignity, or status as a human adult"? Fuck you very much.
It may be a small group of ultra-conservative legislators in Ohio who are pushing this bill. It may have virtually no chance of being made into law. I don't care. The very fact that elected representatives and other powerful people are using this language to talk about women, and that we as a society are actually entertaining their illogical, misogynistic outcry as part of a serious debate, has me sick to my stomach and shaking with rage.
karjack has a fantastic, and I mean fantastic, response here. Do us both a favor and read it.

Phew. What with all the outrage on my flist today, I'm kind of tired out now. At this rate, my contribution to International Blog Against Racism Week might be limited to, "Racism is bad, mkay?" *g*
