So, I went to the NYC Pride Parade this past Sunday. The mood was ecstatic. Perhaps the most moving part was seeing all the signs about marriage that had to be hastily created/amended after Friday's vote, or those that had such a different meaning before and after. For instance, one couple marched carrying a sign that said, "Engaged for 30 years. Let's get married!" Before Friday, it could've been a prod to action. After Friday, it was a joyful celebration.

There were also a number of groups/signs pointing out that the fight for equality is far from over, and that marriage is not the be all and end all of rights--or of society. Although they were outnumbered, I wholeheartedly agree with them.

I took over 500(!) pictures, and would have kept going, had my battery not died. Here's one of my favorite pics from the whole event:

Two people march holding hands. On the left is a white, apparently male-bodied person, and on the right is a black, apparently female-bodied person. Both are wearing lacy white bridal gowns. The person on the left is blowing bubbles into the air, and the person on the right is wearing a Lady Gaga-esque crown.

Neil Gaiman is set to write the screenplay for an adaptation of 《西游记》 (Xī Yóu Jì | Journey to the West), with James Cameron as technical advisor.

*sigh*

I can't even- I don't- the more Neil Gaiman blithely shows off his willing ignorance of his own massive privilege, the more difficult it becomes for me to enjoy any of his work. I'm sorry; I should have reached this point long before now. It was my own privilege that allowed me to endure thus far. I'm sorry.

I bought his books. I shook his hand. I told him I wanted to write stories like his. I'm just so let-down and angry at myself and at him and at the world.

Hey look, it's a literal wardrobe post.

I was sitting in bed, reading, and something about the arrangement of colors and stripes in my closet really tickled my fancy; so I interrupted my reading briefly to take a picture.

I made potato soup last night. I figured that since I'm going to be heavily dependent on soup for a few days, I might as well be eating some friggin' awesome soup. This is it:

I used this recipe, which I'd made once before when I was trying to use up a bunch of milk. Following the advice of some of the comments, I added some chicken broth and some more salt for flavor. The nice thing about a recipe like this is that it serves as a good starting point; you can omit certain ingredients and add whatever else you might want. It's pretty good with some cheese:

Although it might be nicer with some white cheddar, so the cheese isn't the exact same color as the soup? Tasty either way, though!

Here are some other more-or-less experimental food things I've made recently:

So I'm not very in touch with my Feelings at the best of times, and lately I've been so busy that when people ask me, "How are you?" I honestly don't know how to respond. I mean, I know it's a normal question to ask, and maybe the proper response is "Fine, thanks"--but I don't like to say I'm fine when I'm not, because I'm not a very good liar and it always just comes out sounding odd. So, in recent days, those who ask me this question tend to get a blank stare while I try and figure out what exactly it has to do with me, again.

In other stuff, Cirque du Soleil is in Seattle May 4-June 11. I feel like I really ought to snatch the opportunity to see them while they're here, but knowing me I'll just make noises about wanting to go and never actually do anything about it. Still, it's worth a try--anyone in the Seattle area want to go? I feel more motivated when others are involved.

Ugh, I so don't want to go to morphology this afternoon. The only good thing about that class is that I'm starting to get better at tuning the professor out and writing fic in place of notes. Ugh ugh ugh. Unfortunately, I'm mostly too conscientious to skip class with malice aforethought. *kicks work ethic*
