I'm a little late to the party, but I've seen this meme going around: When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

This is kind of embarrassing, like having guests over and letting them see my gigantic pile of laundry, laundry which has passed the point of unwashed and is nearing archaeological significance. These bits here range from a few weeks to a few years old, and there is a sadly small probability of any of them ever being completed. I say this not because I don't like them anymore, but just because I know me.

BLEACH
( The one that's mostly just Chad and Ichigo being cuteCollapse )

The Charioteer
( The one that's mostly just Laurie being thinkyCollapse )

FAKE
( The one where Ryo and Dee both sleep with Berkeley, and then they have a threesomeCollapse )

FFVII
( The one where Zack meets AerisCollapse )
( The one where Cloud gets religion in the North CraterCollapse )
( The extremely silly one that's based on a heinous pun about the Slash-all materiaCollapse )
( The one where Cloud comes to Midgar, meets Zack, blah blah you know how it goesCollapse )

FFX
( The one where Auron decides to be nicer to Jecht, and then they have sexCollapse )
( The one where Auron has culture shockCollapse )

Good Omens
( The one where Crowley is a girl, and has a babyCollapse )

Naruto
( The one where I can't resist writing a KakaIru get-together ficCollapse )
( The one where Sakura and Naruto are both stupid in love with Sasuke, i.e. CANONCollapse )
( The one where Haku gets sick and Zabuza gets introduced to some nasty feelings (like fear)Collapse )

Samurai Champloo
( The one where Mugen and Fuu continue his reading lessonsCollapse )

Sandman
( The one with Rose and Dream that I barely rememberCollapse )

SGA
( The one in which John is a girl, thanks to a handy Ancient (plot) deviceCollapse )

That's- wow. Rather a lot. And I didn't follow the instructions quite literally, or it would be even worse.

The sad thing is, I'm pretty sure this is the most fic I've posted in well over a year.

I am a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad cheater.

I just checked sga_flashfic in hopes that the current challenge would give me some inspiration for (and motivation to finish) one of a few stories at various stages of not-being-written--and it so did. Oh yes. *rubs hands together*

(And, okay, I know I'm hardly the only one to apply prompts after the fact, but I always feel just a little bit like I'm cheating when I do it. But I mean, whatever helps me work through my paralyzing fear of being a one-hit wonder in this fandom, right?)

Start the clock!

First, I wrote a drabble for the ds_flashfiction Apocalypse challenge.

Second, I have just now, and I do mean just now, posted a longer fic over at sga_flashfic, for the Documentation challenge. It's the first SGA fic I've ever finished (though I actually have another in progress that I started first), and it has pr0n which is OMGscary for me, and I ran way over the originally announced deadline so much of it was written in a rather frantic and hurried state of mind, and SGA is another fandom filled with amazing writers, and--the point is, I think it's understandable for me to be monstrously intimidated and nervous about posting this fic. Which I am. But bravecows is an awesome cheerleader and encouragey-type-person, and hey, even as I write this, the first positive comments are rolling in. And, honestly, I'm just glad to have the damn thing out of my hair. It's been interfering with my sleep lately.

So, anyway, it's called Checklist, it's McKay/Sheppard, and you should read it if you like that sort of thing. Don't leave me over here wringing my hands for nothing!

Just some disconnected rambling about this episode before I get to back to what I should be doing; beware spoilers.

( SGA 2x19, InfernoCollapse )

[ETA: It's absolutely hilarious to me to go read other people's reviews and see them pointing out the exact same things that I did--so, okay, it's not just me! It's really not!]

Right. So, I'm sitting here with my head vaguely hurting, doing possibly the most boring reading of my life, for my English phonology class--which, don't get me wrong, is a very cool subject, but. This? This is an incredibly detailed, in-depth discussion of all twenty-five standard lexical sets used to describe vowels in English; and I don't even know how to describe how incredibly repetitive it is, except to say that it's kind of like someone giving a very thorough, methodical explanation of the numbers 1-100, one by one, each time starting with a definition of what a number is, and getting duller from there.

Except that, just now, the author made reference to a particular pronunciation as possibly being like that of Bertie Wooster--and now I'm torn! Because I still think the whole thing is incredibly dull, but I feel anyone who can work in a reference to B. Wooster in a textbook deserves some sort of commendation.

My favorite linguistics quote as of yet, though, is still this one, from Isaac Newton's notebook:

"The filling of a very deepe flaggon with a constant streame of beere or water sounds ye vowells in this order w, u, ω, o, a, e, i, y."

Because, really, more experiments should involve deepe flaggons of beere.

In other news, the time I haven't spent doing homework lately has mostly been devoted to slacking off and watching lots of SGA, the end result being that you should all mark your calendars because this is like a once-in-a-lifetime, planets-aligning thing here--I am actually caught up and getting into the canon of something at the same time as everyone else.

It's especially remarkable because it's a T.V. show, and I can never manage to watch T.V shows as they actually, you know, air. I stumble across them years later, after everyone else has already squeed over them, and go, "Oh, hey, what's this?"

I'm so used to being behind everyone else and (totally failing at) avoiding spoilers, that I still feel like a lurker on the fringe of the party--even though, thanks to the magic of the intarweb, I am now in fact ahead of most other U.S. viewers. It's really weird!

(Having caught up with SGA, I've been mainlining DS episodes once again--I'm about halfway through Season Two--which is, you know, a whole other kettle of squee. It's a wonder I haven't flunked out of college already.)
