Nowadays theses spices have become a quite serious and important issue to be attention. One major concern is presence of heavy metals. The present study was designed to estimate the concentration of toxic heavy metals in food spices of Hamedan city, for the contaminates of Arsenic, Mercury, Tin, Copper, Zinc, Cadmium, and Lead. Total 22 highly used spices with three replications were tested by using ICP-MS. Samples were digested by Microwave digester system (MDS). Results show that maximum samples were meeting the requirement for As, Hg, Cd, Sn, and Pb but some samples were beyond the acceptable criteria for Cu and Zn. Method was optimized and validated for the analysis of heavy metal as per the ICH requirement. To validate the matrix effects repeatability, reproducibility, recovery and overall uncertainty were calculated. Recovery was ranged between 80 to 120% with RSD less t...

Road side commonly available Fast foods consumed by majority of population are considered vulnerable from hygiene point of view. In the present study, an attempt has been made to develop the understanding of the microbiological quality of some fast food samples. A total number of fifty six commonly available fast food samples from different locations of North India were studied for microbiological parameters comprising total bacterial count, coliform count and for detection of Escherichia coli and Salmonella. The samples were found to be contaminated with total bacterial count in the logarithmic range of 2-2.99 to 7-7.99 (log10cfu), coliform count in the logarithmic range of 2-2.99 to 5-5.99 (log10cfu), Escherichia coli count in the logarithmic range of 33.99 to 5-5.99 (log10cfu). Coliform group as a major food contaminant was detected in 53.57% samples whereas the major pathogenic bacteria Salmonella was not d...

The aim of present study was to analyse polyphenols in Phaleria macrocarpa by using Microvave assisted extraction technique. For this experiment leaves, stems and fruits were used. Aqueous methanol and aqueous acetone were used as solvent. Obtained extracts were analyzed for their antioxidant activity using total flavonoid content, FRAP and DPPH assays. Total seven flavanoids were quantitated by HPLC. Results showed in fruit extract antioxidant activity was highest. HPLC analysis showed kaempferol, myricetin, naringin, and rutin were present in abundant amount. From the results obtained Phaleria macrocarpa plant can be considered as a natural source due to the presence of good amount of flavonoids compounds.

It is used internally for the treatment of asthma, fever, flu, whooping cough, loss of appetite, dyspeptic complaints, inflammatory and infectious diseases of kidneys and bladder, diabetes, rheumatic complaints. It is used externally for wounds, acne, poorly healing ulcers, stomatitis, bleeding gums, rheumatism, neuralgia, gonorrhoea. Traditional use for the treatment of several medical conditions has been reported. Some of the cited therapeutic indications are insufficiently described and supported by scientific data, thus it is recommended to list only the indications that are appropriate for traditional use without the supervision of a medical practitioner for diagnostic purposes or for prescription or monitoring of treatment. It is effects on ecological system through directly or indirectly exposure to the environment.

Eucalyptus is a tall evergreen tree native to Australia, nowadays found around the world. Eucalyptus Plants have been used for the treatment of diseases for a very long time. The leaves and oil of the eucalyptus plant are used for medicinal purposes. The plant and its extracts have been evaluated for a number of activities, namely, antimicrobial, antispasmodic, antifungal, antiseptic, bronchitis, deodorant, diabetes, skin diseases, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-arthritic and antipyretic. During the present study, the plant was subjected to genotoxicity studies viz. bacterial reverse mutation test (Ames Test) in order to ascertain an aspect of the safety of the drug and ecosystem. Eucalyptus globulusleaf extracts showed no mutagenicity when tested with difference revertants of Salmonella typhimuriumviz. TA98, TA100, TA102, TA1535 and TA1537in presence and absence of metabolic activation system (S9). In addition, the extract showed significant protective effect against mutagenicity induced by mutagen in S. typhimurium TA98 and TA100 strains with or

These food processing by-products serve a cocktail or a soup of phytochemicals with health promoting properties. These are claimed to possess many reusable substances of high value and can be money-spinner if they are appropriately utilized. This chapter articulates that by-product of fruits & vegetables have a potential to be used as a functional agent in cosmetics, medicines and functional food application either as raw material for secondary processes, as operating supplies or as ingredients of new products.

The linear calibration curves 2 were established using concentration of 0.5, 1.0, 5.0, 10, 20, 50 and 100 ppb of each element with linearity (r >0.998). In conclusion, present study can offer the capability to performed ppb levels of multi-elements measurement with ICP-MS and microwave digester and can be effectively used for determination of heavy metal in spices samples.

Methanol and aqueous extracts of different parts (seeds, roots and leaves) of Sesamum indicum L. were screened to detect in vitro antioxidant [1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) and thiobarbituric acid (TBA)] and antimicrobial (disc diffusion and deep well diffusion) activity. On the basis of the results, different parts of S. indicum L. showed promising antimicrobial and antioxidant activity in methanol extract instead of aqueous extracts. It has also been observed that S. indicum L. has a powerful antioxidant and antimicrobial activity and can be used as accessible source of natural antioxidants and antimicrobial agent in pharmaceutical industry and as a possible food supplement.
