Some athletes learn to cope successfully with these stresses, and for them sports are enjoyable and challenging. Others who are unable to cope find sport participation to be a stressful and threatening experience. Coping is defined as an individual’s cognitive, emotional, and action tendency efforts to manage specific external and/or internal demands. (Crocker, Kowalski & Graham, 1998; Lazarus, 1999). According to Lazarus & Folkman (1984) “coping” should be viewed as a process which is dynamic, depending upon the individual’s evaluation of a given situation. But inappropriate and unproductive coping styles have been found to have a variety of harmful outcome, such as adjustment difficulties and health problems on the athlete (Nicolotti, Elsheikh and Whiteson, 2003).

Kaplan and Baron describes a emotionally mature person as having the capacity to withstand delay in satisfaction of needs, ability...

Extensive social scientific research into human reactions to threats provides some insights into the psychological strategies humans are likely to adopt in the face of the threat of climate changes. This essay explains the different factors which contribute to better adaptation to climate changes. The degree to which societies are vulnerable to climate change depends on the extent to which parts of the population are dependent on natural resources and ecosystem services; the extent to which the resources and services they rely on are sensitive to climate change, and their capacity to adapt to changes in these resources and services. Instead of implementing some techniques or tools very selectively, an integrated approach incorporating social, psychological, physical, physiological, and technological elements in the environment need to be undertaken effectively to moderate potential damages, to take...
