The study involved 208 students (141 girls and 67 boys) of the 1st and 2nd year of education from Moscow State Food University and the Russian University of Transport. With the help of the questionnaire of motivation for the success of university students (Pakulina, 2009) we identified essential components of success. Students see their success as a result of personal activity (16.81), personal success (16.77), psychological comfort and feelings of emotional uplift (16.22). Students appreciate the feeling of getting a result that brings them satisfaction and well-deserved joy after overcoming difficulties. For them, the external elements of success, such as luck and strength, are not so important. Intrinsic motivation for success was more important than extrinsic. Social media is important for students, it helps to connect friends and classmates. For stude...

Despite the growth of initiatives designed to promote active citizenship, there has been comparatively little focus on the role of universities in saving societies. The authors of this article attempted to consider the challenges of today’s societies and the necessity of teaching active citizens through educating critical voices. It demonstrated that radically-changing approaches towards teaching the individual are essential today. Drawing on both literature and personal experience, this paper reviews to what extent universities can create conditions for fostering problem-solving; critical and reflective thinking of students; their tolerance and understanding that will eventually lead our societies towards a higher-quality and more democratic governance.

The success of training and personal development in the educational environment of a university l... more The success of training and personal development in the educational environment of a university largely depends on the subjectivity of students, i.e., their personal activity / passivity. Based on some research of experimental data, we analysed the factors influencing the development of the subjective, objective and negative position of students when working in the environment of e-learning and online education. The aim of this work was to undertake a comparative study of the tendency to adopt a subject / object position among students (for example, students from five Moscow universities). The interaction of students with the information environment was analysed. The ideas of Russian psychologists about children's active position in the learning process, developed by S.L. Rubinstein (student-centered approach), became the methodological basis of the study. The process of the formation of the personal inclination of learners to adopt an active (subject) or subordinate (object) role position in interactions with the educational environment and its subjects (teachers, students and parents) is not studied well enough. A sample of 390 students answered the questions about their attitude to education and learning. The findings revealed that the level of subject, object and negative position is different. Subject position is more expressed, but object position to education also has a significant level. We found that the students with a high level of computer skills are tending to have the higher developed subject position. The statistically significant difference was also found between the higher level of object position and a positive attitude towards distant leaning and online education.

Burnout is a serious syndrome related to those professions with people - to- people interactions and teachers are among those who suffer burnout that can adversely influence both teachers and students. The article discusses the difficulties experienced by university staff in teaching via distance learning for full-time university students during the coronavirus pandemic. The staff of the universities in Russian had to start a distant learning online form of education from the middle of March 2020. This presented new challenges for teachers in universities. These difficulties, among others, influenced the formation of professional burnout of university teachers. The study was conducted in the form of a survey of the teachers who provided online classes with students. To determine the level of burnout, the Maslach (1980) questionnaire in the adaptation of Vodopianova (2013) was used. The questionnaire on the factors of difficulties in education online teaching was developed. The study was conducted at the beginning of June 2020. 66 teachers of Higher education replied the answers in the questionnaires. Most of them (94%) were teachers of foreign languages at universities. The aim of this research was to evaluate the burnout of university teachers and estimate some factors that influenced their burnout at the time of pandemic. It was found that the gender factor of teachers did not affect their burnout, but differences in the level of the components of burnout was found. The objectives of the present study are to extend prior studies on teacher burnout in online teaching by exploring factors which contribute to language teachers’ feelings of emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and reduced personal accomplishment and estimate the factors that had the negative impact on the process of education.
