_4:06 pm_[chaaaa] | mica ohfive! hey there--not sure if this community is still active, or if anyone checks it. but i figured it can't hurt to try.i'm headin' to MICA this summer (core>drawing/painting the figure; workshop>artist books) and just have some questions on what to bring.-- would i be able to handwash some of my clothes? some of them are just fussy like that. i could just wash them in the bathroom sink, but like..would there be room anywhere for me to hang dry them? if not, then it'd be good to know so i don't bring the clothes that are handwash only.--do we get closet space? should i bring hangers?--items list has "clip lights" on it. any of you think that i really need these?you are all great. those tips in the previous entries are awesome. i can't wait to go x) (7 Comments |Comment on this) |

_11:49 pm_[chloelle] | Oy! My friend John Hahn is currently at mica pre-college. I'm not sure what classes he's taking, but anybody who is there should be super awesome to him anyways! [He's a skinny white kid with black hair, glasses, and many Iron Maiden t-shirts.]That's it, hope anybody who is currently there is having a splendid time. (Comment on this) |

_11:19 am_[ocean_storm] | Today's the day the program starts. I'm really anxious right now. I'll get to hang out with a few other people I know who are going and meet lots of new faces as well. Getting a nice feel for MICA also rocks because I'm seriously considering to apply in the fall.Hope to see anybody else from here who is going =) Current Mood: excited (Comment on this) |

_3:06 am_[blackmoth] | Hello there, folks, just wanted to say hello.I'm 20, I live in Dallas, MICA has been my dream school forever, and I've been accepted to go this fall.I'm planning on doing the whole 5 year dual degree program that earns me a BFA /MA in digital arts, and I'm fairly sure my concentration will be video. _3:54 pm_[prophylactic_] | Well I have sent in my intent form and I e-mailed the admissions counselor and he said that they have more qualified applicants than spaces. He also said he'd ask how big the waitlist is for me and the chances of getting accepted. He also said he'd put in a good word for me. Current Mood: Okay (Comment on this) |
_3:22 pm_[ocean_storm] | Yes! I got in! However, I didn't get the classes I signed up for or seem to get any scholarships =( Do you get scholarship info with your admissions letter or after you officially sign up? I might not be able to go if I don't get any money *sigh*Well anyway, enough whining from me ;) I got Drawing and Painting the Figure and Ceramics: Raku- Fire and Smoke. I'm going to e-mail the admissions lady and try to get my original classes if possible. I wont mind those classes at all but I kind of had my heart set on photography. Hopefully I'll see some of you guys around at MICA =)--EDIT--My Parents are letting me go. So I WILL see you guys there =D Current Mood: bouncy (5 Comments |Comment on this) |

_3:08 pm_[prophylactic_] | So I got my letter today and I've been waitlisted because of the large numbers of people applying. I hate this, I sent my application DAYS before the deadline but that didn't matter at all. Now I have to send a form back to them saying I still want to go. Anyone else get something? _5:30 pm_[paris_starz] | Hi! So I was sitting atmy computer, searching around lj and I thought well why don't I search for the MICA summer program....I didnt actually think that there would be one! Anyways, I still haven't sent in my app. yet and am getting into that slightly panicky place, I am finishing firing a few pieces (high fire, raku, I had to get on my teacher's case a bit), I have to assemble them, clean up some drawings and then take slides, write my letter....that's it. Is it really bad that I didnt apply for the early addmission? Are alot of the spaces going to have been taken up already, or are alot of the people last minute like me?If I could ask a few gen. questions for anyone who has gone to answer if they want...What was the worst thing about the program?...The best? Well, I'll be around, thanks. NikkiOh yea, my personal lj is a bit junky nothing special, I don't write at all, just another junk drawer in my case) Current Mood: freaking out slightly (9 Comments |Comment on this) |

_10:24 pm_[no_dinero] | ! okay, so i'm patiently anticipating my response from MICA to see if i get in for the summer program.how generous do you think they will be for scholarships? and i know this is vague and completely varies from person to person, but i need something to calm me. my parents aren't able to pay for anything. and so far the money i have saved up is only enough for the trip there and back. heh.anyway, i signed up for the photography class and drawing workshop.about me.. i'm from seattle. mainly focused on photography, but that has been broadening to music and drawing. umm... nothing else really.http://home.comcast.net/~swearjar/ here is some of my work. please check it out.erin (4 Comments |Comment on this) |

_3:53 pm_[lenablair] | Don't forget to have fun on the New York and DC trips--it's not always the museums that make it up, either. Well, no, take that back. If you've never been to all the Smithsonians in DC, do hit them all up. Well, whichever ones you and your mates are interested in.And one of the best things to prevent from visual art overload during an entire day at museums in New York is to make it to Central Park and lounge around, sketch, even. Don't pay for over-priced museum food; walk anywhere from three to eight blocks and find a little Italian-american family owned pizza joint, or the like. You can have over-priced food anywhere. While not neccessary, if your parents won't kill you for long-distance overages, bring your cell (and charger!), it can be useful on fieldtrips to meet up with friends in other studios.Slide film! Slide everything! Esp. prudent for any 3d students. (Comment on this) |
_1:47 pm_[chloelle] | Another MICA pre-college tip Don't leave your water bottle in Lindsay's fridge for 2 weeks because she'll hold a grudge against you!!!(: (Comment on this) |
_12:58 pm_[littlebagel] | .. I didn't know I couldn't update an entry I put up in some community. Load of crap. When someone asks you if you have a lighter and they've never spoken to you for some other/better reason.. Don't kid around and say, "Yes." then say "syke, no."They won't like it.THem smokers are desperate for lighters when they're looking for one.I though he was going to smack me for .. kidding around.OR you could just have a lighter and be handy. _12:51 pm_[littlebagel] | woo TARCS are usually awesome. You all will/better have fun. Some of my friends from our humble Mount Hebron High might/better go there. The food is deelish.People are funny.Nice to get away from the same ol' boohoo hoolala crowd at your school.Be friendly.I took environmental design and and.. and.. computer imaging.. and I literally did nothing outside of the classroom and the teachers were funny-cool. One moved to Chicago.. The other one is still nice and funny.Right, so.. I didn't quite get to experience the hardwork or anything like that, tho env.des. wasn't easy.. shitty box cutters and immense amounts of cardboard cutting don't mix too well.I had a lifesize statue thingie of a friend of mine in my basement and it scared everyone entering, including me. THat friend is.. "lenablair"My right eye and nostril are burning and the nostril is .. well.. burning AND bleeding. So. I'm going to go take care of that. Bye. Current Mood: good (Comment on this) |

_11:01 pm_[lenablair] | Major pre-college advice: If you feel passionately about one of the workshops, and you weren't put in it, call and bug them till you get the one you do want, esp. if MICA wants you for that major. I deeply regret not hassling them a lot about being in Fibers workshop, and while I did do it on my own as soon as I got home, I would have really appreciated the experience and having access to those kinds of facilities.Go to ACTUAL food stores: Safeway, -not- the grocery store just around the corner (it smells like a thrift store--it's okay for cheap things, sugar, milk, eggs, but not neccessarily halfway made food).Don't bring lots and lots of extra stuff. Clothing to a minimum, all of it should be allright if you lose it. Decent shoes are a neccessity for a lot of reasons if you're in any sort of 3d classes.Sunscreen. Nuff said.Swimsuit: Beaver Dam swim trip is Teh Fun. The AVERAGE depth is 50 feet, 3 people have died there. Just do it.Comfort items: For me and Ian, it was tea kettles, plenty of tea, mugs, and fixings. Also, having enough plasticwear or utensils for yourself and pals will earn you friends.Do the portfolio review. If you haven't met them before, meet the person who will be in charge of your admission should you choose to apply to MICA for Undergrad. It can make all the difference when merit-based scholarships go around. If you have a 18x24 portfolio and are in any of the drawing courses, and can rig it so you can hold pads that are around 24x36 (by attatching a spare luggage strap to each handle, etc., DO IT! -So- glad I had mine, since the walk from Meyerhoff (where the dining hall is) and Commons is about half a mile. In the same sense, if you have an artbin that you can carry, do that. Bring supplies you have on the list they'll EVENTUALLY send you, and it's less you'll have to buy. If you're getting presents for any reason before you go, don't forget to ask for Utrecht or MICA store gift certificates, as both are within close distance (and I'm super partial to Utrecht's acrylic paints, -ESP- their gloss gel and gesso, which have beautiful thick textures).Cooking utensils, if you like to cook and think you will. Also, buying them from thrift stores so you can just leave them with a commuter/local MICA student is good, since you've got small investment. Little spice bottles of stuff you'll use (salt and pepper def) would be good.Radio/CD player. Talk with room-mates once you get contact info re stereo, but it's nice to have a portable whatever for long studio classes.First aid kit, esp. if you've got 3D classes. I bought one in the travel toiletries aisle at WalMart, probably one or two bucks, and by the end I'd ended up using almost all of the band-aids.Bath mat or towel, the vinyl shower curtains are not that great, so it WILL get wet. _4:50 pm_[prophylactic_] | Even though this community is pretty dead for the most part, I thought I would post. I'm Irene. I'm hoping to attend MICA's Pre-college Residency Program '04 this summer.Any advice? Things I should bring (I am local so if I forget something I can get it)? Roomate stories? etc. Current Mood: dorky (11 Comments |Comment on this) |

_7:16 pm_[lenablair] | Who was in that workshop where they made instructions and stuck them everywhere at the final show? And what was it all about? I remember it being something having to do with a ball bouncing on a sea but I don't remember.........Lindsay (2 Comments |Comment on this) |
