_10:18 am_[zanelazos] Hi Everyone,As a musician that often performs with or for belly dancers, I thought I'd post to the midwest belly dance community to see what people are listening to and what they prefer music-wise. Of course there are a number of divergent styles of belly dance and quite a lot of different musical tastes out there. But I ask because though my current project Azphodel has focused on Tribal Fusion (somewhat), I aim to take that project in a different direction but will continue to delve deeper into the tribal fusion and world fusion dance movements with other projects. Also, as a player of several traditional Near Eastern instruments (mainly Turkish yaylı tanbur and Turkish mey), a lot of my focus currently is on instrument technique and Turkish art and folk music. I also play a selection of Arabic, Bulgarian, Greek and other music other than Turkish. Any dancers out there that love the traditional (or a fresh new take on traditional) stuff that have input, please chime in!!Thanks everyone,~Zane Lazoswww.azphodel.comCurrent Mood: curious (Comment on this)

_1:16 am_[scarlett71177] Shadow Dance? I'm not asking anyone to give up their trade secrets, but has anyone here performed a shadow dance? (i.e. backlit from behind a screen.) (For inspiration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODn4bY6rHec)The troupe I belong to has been thinking about doing this for some time, and we'd like to put it together this fall. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips/tricks/opinions on how to make the frame, lighting issues, doing this with a small troupe, etc... I'd love to hear from you in comments or a PM.Thanks! _5:21 pm_[linmayu] Belly dance with Tatiana--Wednesdays 6-7pm in Chicago Lakeview Class description is here. Currently there are only 2 people in the class and we would love to have more!Tatiana is a very experienced dancer and fun teacher who does "gypsy style" belly dance, blending the different styles of belly dance into one unified form. Beginners and advanced students will get something out of the class; she is attentive to each individual's needs. Her rates are 15drop−inor15 drop-in or 15dropinor45 a month. Class is at Life Force Arts Center, 3148 N. Lincoln Ave, in Chicago (near Belmont and Ashland). Free street parking is available on Barry, Southport, Greenview, or Paulina. She also mentioned that she is looking to start a tribe to perform at Full Moon Fire Jam, so if you're interested in doing that definitely come to the class and get connected up, or contact her at 773-899-3038 or info@cigana.me. :DAlso, there's a Bartenieff Fundamentals workshop on Thursday June 24 at the same location that may be of interest, though it is not belly dance. Bartenieff Fundamentals is a powerful movement discipline that can help you really improve your physical capabilities (flexibility, strength, reduced muscle tension and injury prevention) and become a stronger dancer through understanding the principles of three-dimensional movement.I hope to see some of you at either class :D (6 Comments |Comment on this)

Tickets for the show are available for 10inadvance(plusindietickets′10 in advance (plus indietickets' 10inadvance(plusindietickets2.50 fee online) or $15 at the door. This is an 18+ event, beginning at 10 pm.WHERE?Ground Zero is a great space for this show, but do bring cash! They don't accept plastic. There are two banks nearby with ATMs.WHO?Mercy Kill is a local project, a side-project of Apocalypse Theater members. You can hear some of Apox here -- they're strange talented folks with a very visual form of performance. Expect electronic effects, metal, lingerie and guitars.Autumn is another local project, and this is officially a reunion gig for them. Not to be missed, in my opinion! True gothic rock; guitars, pedals, sweet sad vox. Good for shoe gazing and swirling. Very good. An excellent match for the headliner...Faith and the Muse is a duo, William Faith (of Christian Death) and Monica Richards (of Strange Boutique) have been performing together since 1993. They have been blending traditional music of several cultures with experimental and electronic music ever since.:ankoku butoh:, their 5th studio album, is "a CD/DVD/Book with 13 new atavisms for the warrior within." Thematically, the album reflects elements of Shinto and Japanese culture. It spent four weeks on the German Alternative Music Charts recently, and I look forward to getting my hands on it.
