If you want to plant a garden, you have to work the soil and plant the seeds. As an educator, whe... more If you want to plant a garden, you have to work the soil and plant the seeds. As an educator, when you want to grow a program or group of students, you have to do the same thing by working the soil of opportunity and planting the seeds of potential. In October 2002, a seed was planted to grow the research base in technology education. The seeds planted were undergraduate students (pre-service teachers) from Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, Purdue, and St. Cloud State Universities. Together with a faculty member from each institution, sixteen undergraduates completed a three-day professional development experience on the impli-cations of research and technology education. A variety of research approaches were discussed, but the primary focus was on action research, the type of research typically used by classroom teachers.
