about
Mingus Big Band New York, New York
Mingus Big Band celebrates the music of composer/bassist Charles Mingus who celebrated his Centennial year in 2022. Under the artistic direction of Sue Mingus, and building off the Mingus Dynasty septet formed after Mingus’ death in 1979, this 14-piece band features new arrangements of Mingus compositions in a larger band format that Mingus was not always able to organize in his lifetime. ... more

This is a great record! It reminds me a little of Gunther Schuller's 'Third Wave' experiments. I admire Dave for his consistent involvement in moving the music forward ...as complex, involving and articulate as anything he has done. John Cratchley

Fantastic music by the great man with an excellent band. It's wonderful to hear another version of Faubus! The only criticism is that the sound is marred by much crackling, as though it was recorded from worn vinyl LPs. The booklet says it was recorded on 8 track tape so I'm a bit puzzled by that. gz
