The team selected Twitter as the social media network from which to collect data because of its popularity and ease of use. The sample was drawn from 1,000 Twitter profiles that were retrieved from 24 keywords such as MD. A total of 3,378,285 tweets from this sample were collected and analyzed for content, use of hashtags, mobile device use, frequency, longevity, medical relevance, medical specialty, gender, and approximate age. This is an important first look, using Big Data, at how physicians parlay the popularity of social media to build social capital through sharing research with colleagues, connecting with patients and prospective patients, and extending their personal and employer brands to increasingly information-hungry and interactive consumers.

These values are inconstant and cyclical, shaping each generation’s values, behavior and lifelong attitudes. The Millennial generation is pivotal to America’s legacy of democracy, yet there are conflicting reports about the engagement of Millennials in civic life. Millennials may be wondering why they are bowling alone, even though their Facebook friends say they “like” bowling and even “like” specific bowling alleys on specific evenings. Through the lens of social capital, this paper explores whether Millennials are cultivating social networks that extend beyond their smartphones.

This project required students to work closely with college leaders --including the CFO, President, Board of Trustees, and various vice presidents --and progressed from ascertaining the client's needs to gathering, writing, editing, designing and finding a way to print as well as make an online report available. With no budget. There are valid reasons why accountants and marketers don't see eye-to-eye, as well as why marketing professors lecture ad nauseum about functional silos.
