Hello~! My name is Jeannie. GREAT to find you, here! I've loved her since my early teens, studying radios devastating effect on vaudeville. There's never been another like her.
Johnny Depp on who he'd like to play“What comes into mind at the moment is, like, Mae West, although I probably wouldn’t do it, you know. I’m a little too old for that role now. Maybe Carol Channing.”
[ **mood** | good ] I recently started Becoming Mae West. I'm excited about how the author chose to focus on her early years because those are the ones I'm most interested in learning about. So far, I was surprised to learn that young Mae was noted for her frenetic energy before she refined her act, and how the author thinks she learned to slow down her delivery when practicing readbacks of her lines with her mother.
[ **mood** | bouncy ] Hi all! My name's Meg & I'm 25. I just found this place; I'm in love! Thank you to the darling who made this community! I could kiss you!*HUGS*
Hi... new here, obviously. I've been looking around for a while for a proper community, not just one that listed Mae as a passing interest. I really admire Mae, her attitude and her pride in what she was, without seeming cliched at all. "Everything's in the mind. That's where it all starts. Knowing what you want is the first step toward getting it."
"God gave women their curves," Mae lectured, "effeminate dressmakers took them away by designing garments which could be worn only by women shaped like scarecrows...Most men like women when they look like women. You can get a handful of toothpicks in a restaurant -- free of charge."
Hello all!I just want to introduce myself. My name is Beth. I'm 28 & live in Baltimore. I love Mae. I own almost all of her movies.I just watched a documentary on Jayne Mansfield yesterday. Apparently Mansfield stole Mae West's boyfriend...interesting...Here are some of my favorite quotes:*It is better to be looked over than overlooked.**A woman is like a teabag, you never know how strong she is until you put her in hot water.**I don't like myself, I'm crazy about myself.*
one of the most popular folk songs in US history, frankie and johnny was also a favourite of miss west, and she would use it throughout her career. frances (frankie) silver, who, in 1831, chopped up her abusive husband (charlie) with an axe, is purportedly the inspiration behind this song. if we are to believe the legend, she was also the first woman to be hanged in north carolina. this article, however, is just one of many that seek to dispel the myth.in any event, it's an interesting tale, and a catchy little number ! click here to listen to mae sing one of the many versions of this song.and here are the lyrics to yet another rendition (still mae!) phew !( Read more...Collapse )
shock ! horror ! this was what i felt when i discovered no one livejournal community geared exclusively toward mae west.500 livejournal users currently list miss west as an interest, so i can't be the only one feeling the need for a place to pay homage to The Empress of Sex.join ! tell your friends ! i want to see this place busier than mae's boudoir !a (very) youthful miss west
