The block SVC consist of PI controller, the parameters (Kp,Ki ) of which are being selected from optimizations made by PSO. The best output from PSO is selected and then feeded into the SVC parameters to get the optimized output of the same. A 800KM transmission line and SVC is modeled in the MATLAB. An algorithm has been developed for the same based on PSO. The best and optimized output from the algorithm is seen.. The outputs can be checked with optimized PSO and without PSO optimization. It is clearly seen that PSO optimized SVC gives better results as compared to non optimized SVC.

The three-phase multi-pulse AC to DC conversion system have a phase-shifting transformer and a three-phase source. Every such type of converter provides a 6-pulse AC to DC conversion system, that's why in order to produce more sets of 6-pulse systems, a uniform phase-shift is required and hence with proper phase-shifting angle, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 and higher pulse systems have been produced. The performance improvement of multi-pulse converter is achieved for total harmonics distortion (THD) in supply current, DC voltage ripples and form factor. This paper presents the discussion of multi-pulse improved power quality ac-dc converter (IPQC) configuration, comparative factors and selection of specific.

To remedy this situation many solutions are available, out of which boost converters are studied and analyzed in the upcoming work. There are various topologies of the boost converters which improve the power factor. This paper covers conventional boost and interleaved boost topologies for the analysis of input power factor and THD.

Due to the rapid technological progress, the consumption of electric energy increases continuousl... more Due to the rapid technological progress, the consumption of electric energy increases continuously. But the transmission systems are not extended to the same extent because building of new lines is difficult for environmental as well as political reasons. Hence, the systems are driven closer to their limits resulting in congestions and critical situations endangering the system security. Power Flow Control devices such as Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) provide the opportunity to influence power flows and voltages and therefore to enhance system security, e.g. by resolving congestions and improving the voltage profile. Even though the focus lies on Static Var Compensators (SVC), Thyristor-Controlled Series Compensators (TCSC) and Thyristor-Controlled Phase Shifting Transformers (TCPST), the developed methods can also be applied to any arbitrary controllable devices. In order to benefit from these devices, an appropriate control is necessary. In this thesis, an Optimal Power...

They are especially advantageous for induction motors because of low dv/dt stress and low common mode voltages. Quality of a multilevel waveform is enhanced by increasing the number of levels. However, for increased number of levels, component count becomes very high. In this paper an asymmetrically configured hybrid inverter is employed for a three-phase induction motor, resulting in low device count as compared to the classical topologies. MATLAB/Simulink based models are used to simulate and validate the proposed concepts. .

Many controllers of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) like SVC, STATCOM, Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC), PWM asynchronous dc link, Thyristor-Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) and PWM Series Static VAR compensator gives stabilized voltage support. So they can be placed at the mid-point of the transmission line, which has been proven by the late E.W. Kimbark, as the optimum location for shunt capacitor compensation. This paper deals with the position of a shunt FACTS device (STATCOM) other than mid-point on transmission line to improve transient stability with predefined real power flow.

A new stand-by operation sequence based on sliding phase is proposed in order to reduce the discharge capacitor size. This stand-by solution also relieves the voltage specification of the resonant inductor. The interleaving operation of paralleled stages and the output connection wires are used to minimize the output capacitor current ripple and so extend the power supply’s lifetime. Moreover, synchronous rectification is proposed in order to increase the efficiency and reduce the operation temperature of the output power stage. Finally, sequences are described for establishing and extinguishing arcs. TIG welding is selected for testing operations.

Separately excited dc motors fed by sequentially operated multistage converters are commonly used... more Separately excited dc motors fed by sequentially operated multistage converters are commonly used in mainline traction. The drive performance can be greatly improved by operating the multistage half controlled converters. Drive of a shunting locomotive of 25kV ac traction consists of a half-controlled converter feeding dc series traction motors. It suffers from two important limitations. First, at low output voltages the converter power factor is low. Secondly, the source current with square wave shape is rich in harmonics. In case of suburban and main line trains power rating is large, consequently, the adverse effects of the poor power factor, harmonics and harmonic disturbances on the supply network and telecommunication lines are unacceptable. To overcome these limitations multistage converters, which are operated with sequence control, are used to feed armatures of traction motors. The two halfcontrolled converters arrangementimproves power factor and reduction in reactive powe...
