Les Mis movies? (original) (raw)

Hi! This is my first post in this community!

To get straight to the point, I know that there have been a few movies made based on the novel, the most easily accesible one being the 1998 version with Liam Neeson and Geoffrey Rush - which, from all reports, doesn't seem to accurately portay Victor Hugo's work. But a few friends of mine have told me that they once saw on tv a mini-series I think it was, based on Les Miserables that kept extremely close to the novel. I think it was possibly a french-made production?

If anyone has any ideas about what this would have been and/or where I can get my hands on it, or even if anyone knows of a movie or mini-series that has done justice to the book, I'd love to hear from you.
