Undoubtedly, Tagore's literature, particularly drama, reflects his vision, drawing a comprehensive picture of Indian womanhood that, while not perfect, is surely desirable and close to the heart. However, this study examines Sumitra's character in depth to see how Tagore uses her to question established gender stereotypes and demonstrate the transforming power of female leadership.

It acts as a catalyst, instilling in them a steadfast resolve to 'restart' the journey from scratch, to rekindle the flame of extinguished ambitions, to dream among the shards of broken illusions, and to brace themselves against the perilous currents of emotional fragility. Certainly, cinema is a powerful tool with the ability to shape and alter perceptions on a significant scale, both constructing and deconstructing notions. This has enormous implications for the film 12th Fail. While it is not unusual for low-budget films to elicit significant public emotions becoming the talk of the town, the discussion this time is more poignant since it addresses complex issues like education. In 21st-century India, where technology offers shortcuts for almost everything, the pursuit of success remains elusive in many fields. This stark reality is powerfully conveyed in 12th Fail, a Hindi film released on October 27, 2023, by the renowned director and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Adapted from Anurag Pathak's 2019 nonfiction book, the movie narrates the true story of IPS Manoj Kumar Sharma, who overcame extreme poverty to achieve success in the Indian Police Services. Garnering critical acclaim with ratings of 9.2/10 on IMDb, 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 4.9 audience rating, this low-budget film defied expectations to become a surprise hit.

The book thoroughly explains the modern problems brought on by globalisation and technological advancement, followed by the escalating perceptions of economic disparities, diversity, fanaticism, and rationalism as the main contemporary survival threats. Kiran Desai has accurately captured the state of homelessness, alienation, estrangement, marginalisation, and lack of belongingness that immigrants face in both foreign countries as well as in their own countries in the name of class-culture disparities. The novel tells the story of people from various backgrounds battling social norms while being stigmatised by their caste, class, culture, and country. It depicts post-globalization effects, which have ironically had a greater impact on the segment of society known as the middle class, further divided into the higher middle class and lower middle class, despite having made notable changes in the world spectrum in various aspects. The novelist has amazingly succeeded in portraying the negative aspects of the ongoing changes occurring on all levels, regardless of geographic borders, in the technical, economic, social, cultural, and ethical spheres. New York city, one of the two major locations of the plot, happens to be home to a large population of legal and unauthorised immigrants from various 'Third World Nations', and the other is Kalimpong, a small Indian town at the base of Mount Kanchenjunga in the northeastern Himalayas, which is shown to be experiencing political unrest in the middle of the 1980s following the launch of the liberation movement by the Indian Nepalese. Kiran Desai has effectively depicted the effects of the Gorkha movement of the time, linking it to the main plot. The purpose of this paper is to study the novel's extensive treatment of the themes of home, homeland, alienation, immigration, identity crisis, and above all, the pain of isolation in the shadow of belongingness.
