A survey of Government of Dubai employees about creativity and innovation offered interesting insights on areas of strength and improvement. The data demonstrated the importance of taking a systems perspective which would facilitate the interaction at three levels: organization, team and individual. It highlighted the significance of supporting mechanisms like leadership, culture and processes. How do governments use creativity and innovation to encourage employees yet help co-create, participate and embrace radical and disruptive change? The Dubai Government has embraced an initiative called Dubai10X. 4 The mission is to create change that is 10 years ahead of others through ideation, sharing resources, strategic partnerships and transforming work. The idea is to create the future now. What is required for the Dubai government to succeed?

Eighty-five participants were tested on the Wonderlic Personnel Test, the Baddeley Reasoning Test, Thurstone's Word Fluency test, Guildford's (1967) Alternate Uses and Consequences tests in addition to a multidimensional schizotypy inventory (O-LIFE: Mason, Claridge & Jackson, 1995). The results of the Divergent Thinking tests were scored for both fluency and independently rated by three judges using the Consensual Assessment Technique (Amabile, 1982). Negative schizotypy (Introvertive Anhedonia) was associated with impaired performance on all the measures of creativity. Higher ratings of creativity were associated with a dimension related to Psychoticism (Impulsive Nonconformity). Enhanced fluency on the Thurstone Word Fluency test was associated with higher scores on the Wonderlic Personnel Test. The implications of the results are discussed.

The aim was to examine the incremental validity of learning approaches, intelligence and personality (Big Five traits) in predicting the preferences for six different assessment methods. Four hundred and ten British students from three British Universities completed a general intelligence test, a personality test, a measure on their Approach to Learning and a University assessment method preference test that specified ...

Four hundred qualified psychiatrists are making it an alarming ratio of one psychiatrist to half a million people. Due to the lack of basic knowledge, psychiatric care delivered to patients by general practitioners is suboptimal at best. To address this gap, we designed a 36-hour course in principles of mental health aimed at general physicians. The course spanned over two months with weekly sessions. Initially, the methodology was designed for around 50 participants; however, 575 applicants registered in the first three days. Also, contrary to expectations, the majority of these were medical students from other universities. With a few weeks to go, the team reassessed methodology with a new focus on large. We decided to use Twitter to inform maximum engagement both in the classroom and beyond. The aim was to address the individual concerns of students with different levels and needs, to actively engage and build studentteacher relation, to respond to as many individual comments/communications as possible, to encourage in-participant discussion and to ensure instant communication and content sharing. More than 1200 people showed interest on the Facebook event page. 575 learners attended the certificate course. Majority of the participants were students with about 1% being PCPs. There were 15 multiple choice questions; 2 from each module. The minimal improvement for correct answers on pre-post tests was 9.1% and the maximum was 36.5%. The first four weeks were the most active for all aspects of the curriculum; interest dwindled in the last few weeks when twitter use was limited more for mandatory functions. The older participants in the audience were not comfortable using the technology platform initially, but later warmed up to its usage. Engagement of guest speakers on Twitter was minimal. Overall our experience shows that a twitter platform was helpful in creating engagement of participants in a 2 month weekly course of a large>500 student setting. Further research is needed to ascertain if a combination of engagement methodologies would be more successful in sustaining interest over a long course.

When creativity was assessed by DT test, the consistent predictor was fluid intelligence. When creativity was assessed in terms of achievement or self-rating, personality variables were consistently predictive.

One hundred and twenty eight sixth-form students took part. Fluid intelligence was found to be positively associated with DT fluency, but unrelated to both Self-rated creativity and the BICB. Hypomanic traits were significantly correlated to all three creativity criteria. The combination of hypomanic traits and fluid intelligence demonstrated the strongest association with DT fluency, accounting for 11% of the variance. Hypomania was the best predictor of Self-rated creativity accounting for 17% of the variance. The Big Five accounted for incremental validity of 5-8% depending on the creativity measure used.

Using standard assessments of model fit, all primary factors displayed good to excellent model fit, thus suggesting the scales to be broadly unidimensional. Results indicated a drop in model fit in both the structural and configurally invariant second order models, suggesting some level of misspecification in the global scales of Extraversion, Anxiety, Tough-Mindedness, Independence, and Self-Control. However, the degree of misspecification was slight. Overall, the analyses generally supported the proposed structure of the 16PF5. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2014 APA, all rights reserved)

Research paper thumbnail of Individual Differences in Ideational Behavior: Can the Big Five and Psychometric Intelligence Predict Creativity Scores?

A total of 158 (112 female) college students from British and American universities took part in this study. Bivariate correlations showed that IB was significantly associated with Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness (negatively), and gf. Hierarchical regression analysis showed personality to be a better predictor of IB than was intelligence. Cognitive ability measures only accounted for 4% of the variance in IB, whereas the Big Five superfactors explained an additional 22% of the variance (with gender explaining a further 3%). Furthermore, selected personality facets of Openness to Experience, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness, explained the largest amount of variance in IB, namely 35%. Results are discussed with regard to the theoretical implications of the taxonomic place of IB in the wider realm of individual differences constructs. The assessment of trait creativity (Eysenck, 1993; Guilford, 1950) has proven to be a difficult undertaking, in part due to the difficulty in selecting appropriate measures (Batey & Furnham, 2006; Plucker & Renzulli, 1999). Inconsistent definitions of the creativity construct (Parkhurst, 1999) have obfuscated the selection of appropriate assessments of creativity. However, a recent review of the creativity literature concluded that ''over the course of the last decade, however, we seem to have reached a general agreement that creativity involves the production of novel, useful products'' (Mumford, 2003, p. 107). There is a convergence among researchers that creativity in the individual will be reliant upon multiple

Previous research has shown a relationship between users' personality and SNS use. Using a general population sample (N=300), this study furthers such investigations by examining the personality correlates (Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness-to-Experience, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Sociability and Need-for-Cognition) of social and informational use of the two largest SNS: Facebook and Twitter. Age and Gender were also examined. Results showed that personality was related to online socialising and information seeking/exchange, though not as influential as some previous research has suggested. In addition, a preference for Facebbok or Twitter was associated with differences in personality. The results reveal differential relationships between personality and Facebook and Twitter usage.
