The study was based on investigating the reading habits of people during the corona virus pandemic. During Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, libraries were closed and therefore visiting libraries and reading books and other material was merely a dream for a common man. Few academic and research libraries were providing access to their online resources but public libraries were completely closed. Book lovers were not in a position to buy books from the market or online as only essential services were allowed. In this paper the authors have carried out one survey to study the reading habits of people and lifestyle changes during pandemic and how they were updating and coping up with it. The findings of the study were that most people especially the working class who this study was mainly comprised of engaged in reading a lot. They also engaged in other activities like washing, exercising and cooking .Therefore, peoples reading culture during the corona lockdown was given much attention.

For example, if any social media user is searching for a book to read without any specific idea of what s/he wants, s/he wastes a lot of time browsing around on the internet and crawling/trawling through various sites hoping that s/he might get good book. To avoid confusion, the authors are building a recommendation system for every reader/user that helps to recommend a book based on his choices, hobbies, or what s/he had read previously that will be massive help for users instead wasting time on various sites. Data from social media is the powerful fuel that can be used to helps in decision making and building a recommendation engine. Social media data in the different format is biggest challenge for the business to ingest data at the reasonable speed and further process. In social media data, it is difficult to detect and capture data. Real-time recommendation engine for users, which includes data ingestion methods, challenges, metadata problem, analysis, and consumption, is discussed here.

First of all a lot of examples of such 'best practices' are shown as illustrations and inspiration to Indian university libraries. Secondly, based on some statistical analysis of the differences found in the number of offered best-practice services in between top-ranked Indian and world-universities, it can be concluded that Indian university libraries lag behind a lot and therefore fail to have real impact on their institution's ranking as is the case with the world-top universities.

The most important criterion is research criterion. Higher educational institutes need to collect staffs and students’ research publications, and also check their citations, h-Index, i10-Index and impact factors of journals. Even the evaluation committees like National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) expect higher educational institutes to give cumulative citation, h-index and i10-index, that is, research metrics. In order to get individual and cumulative research metrics like number of citations, number of citable documents, cites per document, h-Index and i10-Index, and impact factor of journals in an easy way, authors took the initiative to create Google Scholar profile of each faculty and then created Google Scholar account for the colleges adding links of all faculties’ on the Google Scholar accounts. This innovative new strategy will benefit higher education institutes appearing for NAAC accreditation or re-accreditation, or other ranking systems by the instructions, guidelines and steps furnished in this report.

It is a challenge in front of all libraries to accept new technologies and offer new services due to many constraints like funds, trained staff, technologies, space, etc. To help the readers get a better and complete understanding of the topic, a total of 59 different web-based services are shortlisted and mentioned in this book with few examples of how libraries are offering these services. The book not only focuses on web-based library services, but also on the success of quality enhancement, i.e. web-based best practices. This is a unique work where the top libraries from all parts of the world are studied and findings are not restricted to a specific country, region, or area. In this book the Webometric Ranking is used for the very first time for selecting university libraries in library and information science field. The main objectives of this book are to give the current status of online library services of universities in the world; to give an overview of analysis of the web based library services; the best practices and technology used by these libraries; to promote web presence and web-based services in university libraries; to correlate the rankings of world university with their library rankings, which has not been done earlier; to improve developing countries libraries and to suggest the best practices to be followed by university libraries from developing countries to change their profiles into more modern information centres with higher education potential. This book can be used as a guide to web-based services and best practices top world university libraries are offering. These web-based services are classified in four clusters depending on their scope and type as follows 1. Web-based Bibliographical Services, 2. Web-based Patron Education Services, 3. Web-based Patron Communication Services, and 4. Web-based Publishing Platform for patrons. The details of library web-based best practices offered by top world universities are also covered. Library web-based services and best practices are explained in this book with a good number of examples and screenshots which will help the library professionals to understand and implement these services in their libraries very easily and effectively. This book would be useful to library professionals all over the world, LIS students, and administrators of educational institutes. The web-based services mentioned in this book will help the university libraries to improve their rankings at global level.

However, not all educational institutions have infrastructure and facilities to admit these students even though accessibility and support for these students is growing. There are many schemes, facilities, services, and financial assistance available to these students along with new assistive technologies that are making teaching and learning processes more effective. While using new technologies in education systems such as e-learning and blended learning, these students need special attention as well as some advanced training and additional features in the technology itself that better help them become familiar with it. Understanding the demands and requirements of differently abled students is the best way to provide them with quality education.
Assistive Technologies for Differently Abled Students explores how to implement effective assistive technologies and other related services for providing differently abled students an education that is high quality and equal to their peers, enabling them to go on and excel in their field and obtain employment. Topics that are highlighted within this book include an overview for the different types of diverse assistive technologies for all types of students including students with visual impairments, learning disabilities, physical challenges, and more. This book is ideal for school administrators, researchers of higher educational institutes, non-governmental organizations, assistive technology experts, IT professionals, social workers, inservice and preservice teachers, teacher educators, practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students looking for information on the types of assistive technologies being employed in education for all types of differently abled students.

It has great potential & should have equal and even greater significance for education sector. Knowledge builds on knowledge and past events helps in generating new knowledge. The main source of generation of knowledge is human efforts which are developed through conducting good educational activities, research activities and generating innovative concepts in the area of interest. All knowledge generating organizations like industries, R&D centers, and higher education institutes from colleges to universities are considered as “Knowledge Houses” where knowledge flows from teachers to students and new knowledge is created but many times remains as gray. This book will be a good reference for all educational institutes who are willing to initiate this process. Author discussed importance of knowledge management in education sector, suggested strategies and techniques used to capture tacit knowledge hidden in brains of students & teachers & knowledge management process for higher educational institutes in developing countries.

Most of the libraries are offering web-based and cloud based services through their websites and that is why library websites are considered as mirror of library. Web-based Library services enable users to accesses services and library resources (books, journals, databases, archives, etc) whenever and wherever they require. Success of a library depends on its innovative services and best practices. Total Quality Management (TQM) stresses upon continuous improvement in services as core values. To cope with the timely challenges, every library has to identify and develop its own tailor-made best practices to enhance the collection development process, services dissemination and use of the library as a whole. Developing best practices, analyzing and revising them at a regular interval lead to continuous improvement in overall performance of the libraries and whole institution. This paper discusses current status of various web and cloud based services offered by the selected traditional university libraries in USA as per QS World University Ranking and NAAC “A” Grade University Libraries in India. It also analyzes and identifies the best practices to be followed by other similar kind of libraries for their readers and students. The findings will be useful to university libraries in other developing or under developed countries.

In some parts of the world, libraries have made impressive progress and have continued to adopt new modalities to addressing this matter while in other parts the picture remains lamentable to the extent where such endeavours are non-existent despite the call to inclusive services that has been sounding for decades in all human activities. Drawing from literature in library and information services (LIS), this chapter seeks to outline resources and services for persons with disabilities that can be used as a standard for higher education libraries.

The international ISO/IEC standard committee in the field of e-learning (i.e., ISO/IEC JTC1/SC36) responded by developing an international standard ISO/IEC 20016-1 to address semantic interoperability requirements of language accessibility, in the form of human interface equivalents (HIEs). The authors identify and summarize key aspects of this ISO/IEC 20016-1 standard including fundamental principles governing individual accessibility requirements, based on the UN CRDP doing so in an ITLET and commitment exchange context. The concept of semantic interoperability (in an ITLET context) is defined and supports the same through the constructs of level and degrees of semantic equivalency. It is based on best practices of translation theory, applied linguistics, and existing applicable international standards, which already address various aspects of language accessibility requirements in a generic manner.

A few federated search engines like EBSCO Discovery service, Summon (web scale discovery service), Knimbus, Mendeley, FedGate, ABCD open source software, Google CSE etc. are being used by libraries to give access to all subscribed or free online e-resources as well as library catalogues, archives' and other reading materials in the library to save the time of readers and give easy access to multiple databases and resources through federated search tool. In distance learning and online education environment libraries need to provide the right information on a single platform to its users from all resources or databases available in the library in a minimum of time. In this chapter the author discusses about the selected commercial as well as open source discovery tools used in Indian Libraries.

The workshop brought together the practical experience in the South with the technical expertise in the North. This paper gives a summary of the presentations of the workshop. It also presents an overview of tools and software for information management and discovery in the context of usability in the South. Finally, this type of workshop helps to define the role of libraries and librarians. Libraries are moving from an acquisition management to an access management role. The debate about the relevance of discovery tools and library catalogues is only starting. Other challenges are the result of changes in scientific communication and evaluation. Which role can librarians play in the upcoming scientific social networks? Which role can they play in the research information systems that universities and other research institutes are installing?
