Unveiling the Exquisite Charm: Musee de Mouassine Marrakesh

Immerse yourself in a world where time stands still, and the beauty of Moroccan artistry comes to life at the Musee de Mouassine Marrakesh. Housed within a 17th-18th century residence, this African Art museum captivates its visitors with a vibrant symphony of colours within its heart, the douiria.

A Resonating Symphony of Moroccan Art

Thematic exhibitions within the museum evoke the spirit of Morocco through its many forms of art. From decorative artefacts to everyday items, music, and imagery, every piece tells a story of a shared country. The museum's first exhibition, "Season of the Holidays", opens a window into Moroccan traditions and festivities. Moreover, the museum is not just a place of observation, but of experience - hosting evenings of enchanting medina music.

A Journey through Time: The House and the Douiria

The museum's location in the Saadian district, built in the 16th and 17th centuries, adds another layer of historical allure. Situated near the Mouassine mosque, the douiria was purchased in 2012, when it was home to a carpenter and his family. A slow and patient restoration followed, from 2012 to 2014, as a private initiative to revive the traditional techniques, ancient know-how, and original materials.

A Passionate Vision: The French Curator's Masterpiece

This gem of a museum is the personal project of the French curator of the Photography Museum. The curator's painstaking efforts have restored the former guesthouse of the adjoining mosque to its original state, crafting a slice of Moroccan history that visitors can step into and explore.

An Immersive Experience: Traditional Music Concerts

A key highlight of the Musee de Mouassine Marrakesh is its traditional music concerts. Held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, in the extraordinary setting of Mouassine Douiria, these concerts transport visitors on a musical journey through the Medina. With limited spaces available, reservations are a must.
