This strategy is used to attach adjectives, cardinals and modifying nominals to nouns (like in Beserman ǯ́aǯ́eg siĺ ‘goose meat’), and to build constructions with measure nouns (like Beserman odig kə̑də̑ gibi ‘one basket of mushrooms’, lit. one basket mushroom). However, there remains a question whether all these constructions share the same syntactic structure. We consider pseudopartitive constructions with measure nouns in comparison with NPs containing non-marked modifying nominals and NPs with adjectives, showing that they do not share the same syntactic structure. Constructions with unmarked modifying nominals show properties of compounding, while pseudopartitives arguably have a measure phrase (a cardinal with a measure noun) and a noun phrase (the quantified nomi...

Considering the data from the Beserman corpus of oral texts we find the parameters influencing the presence/omission of the possessive suffixes in the contexts of possessive (alienable and inalienable) and non-possessive contexts.

This class is traditionally divided into inflected and non-inflected postpositions. Analysis of syntactic and morphosyntactic properties of these two subclasses shows that items traditionally labeled as inflected postpositions form a homogeneous group and show noun-like behavior in most cases, while non-inflected postpositions are heterogeneous. Based on this analysis, we propose to single out a part-of-speech class of relational nouns and show that the rest of the postpositions could be further divided into subclasses with different behavior. The study is based on the data obtained during fieldwork in 2009– 2015 in Udmurtia (for Beserman) and on corpus data (for literary Udmurt).

Analysis is based on a corpus of dialogues recorded and transcribed in Shamardan (a Beserman village in Udmurtia, Russian Federation). It is shown that Russian influence in forms of codemixing and borrowing can be seen at all language levels: phonetics, inflectional morphology, vocabulary, syntax, discourse. It is stated that the changes could result in a mixed idiom, but the dialect is likely to die because it is not passed to next generations anymore.

Almost all types of case compounding as described by Noonan (2008) are attested in the language, however derivational compounding and compounding due to suspended affixation only play a marginal role. We use referential communication experiments and corpus data to analyze the constraints on this phenomenon. We also argue that possessive marking, which is often said to be obligatory in compounding (e.g. Alatyrev 1983: 586, Winkler 2001: 43), is in fact triggered by informational-structural factors that are associated with compounding, rather than by compounding itself. The paper is based primarily on the data that we collected in the field in 2003–2017.Аннотация. These cases are not fully grammaticalized and exhibit some properties rather more characteristic of relational nouns, which is their grammaticalization source. Moreover, we show that the approximative also shares some of these properties. Nevertheless, we demonstrate that the aforementioned units have enough case-like properties to be treated as (undergrammaticalized) cases. The study is based on our own field data collected in Udmurtia in 2010-2016.
