Analysis is conducted of the data on the concept of wisdom in a number of lexicographic sources, such as dictionaries of General English, English thesauri, a dictionary of synonyms, and dictionaries of English proverbs whose semantics when treated in terms of cognitive linguistics is considered as a reflection of popular knowledge verbalized by speakers of the language. Taking into account a huge amount of information in lexicographic sources, some problems concerning the concept of wisdom are formulated with a view to future detailed analysis. When studying the concept, dictionaries of phrase and fable may be of use, dictionaries of idioms, various dictionaries of combinability of English and its collocations, quotations dictionaries, dictionaries of allusions and even the companion to English literature. To clarify the semantics of the concept of wisdom in the English language and English-speaking culture, careful analysis was undertaken of the data in The Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus and Webster's New Dictionary of Synonyms. Proceeding from the definition “A concept captured by the language sign becomes the meaning of a word”, the author considers the semantics of the word “wisdom” and its synonyms, at the same time trying to analyse the diatopic differences between how the concept is understood in the British and American varieties of English.
Key words: the concept of wisdom, lexicographic sources, synonyms, English-speaking culture.

The author considers both linguistic and extra-linguistic parameters contributing to the semantics of this expression. The expression 'facilitation fee' is shown to have different meanings in different situations. Depending upon a certain country and its legal culture, as well as its legal norms (i.e. the particular jurisdiction) this expression can be interpreted literally, as 'the fee for processing some documents', or it can function as a euphemism, camouflaging the meaning of a bribe.

It also aims at developing the well-known division of Business English terminology into general Business English terminology and specialized Business English terminology. An attempt is made to formulate the general idea as well as some basic points. It is expedient to divide the course of English for PR students structurally into two parts: command of general English and mastery of professionally oriented skills. The most important skills, subject to being assimilated as a first-order priority, are singled out. Teaching
materials are suggested that are of interest to PR specialists. Such materials should help in acquiring both general English skills and professional competence.

We proceed from the theoretical works written by scholars of the Department of English Linguistics of Moscow State University, in particular, from Professor T.B. Nazarova’s works on Business English. The intrinsic diversity of BE vocabulary is structured and analyzed by her into four strata: general English vocabulary, general business English vocabulary, general business English terminology and specialized business English terminology. Division of BE terminology into general business English terms and specialized business English terms allows for further categorization
