Power quality is a major issue in WECS employing induction generators. Fluctuations in voltage pr... more Power quality is a major issue in WECS employing induction generators. Fluctuations in voltage profile and frequency are severe issues due to variations in likely conditions such as wind speed and load variation. In this research, during grid fault, sudden transients and variable wind speed, a comprehensive study of DFIG based wind farm employing self-frequency converters and along with STATCOM is presented. Furthermore, various PQ issues like voltage sag, current harmonics are investigated and such issues are suppressed by employing STATCOM for grid connected WECS. A FLC based strategy is employed to enhance the performance of STATCOM that reduce the disadvantages of employing fixed gains in PI and fuzzy logic controller. By inspecting the simulation results and controller presentations, we have found that the presented technique improves the PQ by mitigating both the voltage sag and current harmonics efficiently and with a better reliability.

The various faults like single line to ground fault (L-G), double line to ground fault (2L-G), triple line to ground fault (3L-G) and line to line fault (L-L) are simulated and their effect on circuit breaker is also studied. Such type of fault causes failure to open and close, failure to operate as required etc., the various reasons behind these failures are increased contact resistance, damaged mechanical parts, decreased insulation. In this paper, an artificial neural network (ANN)-based technique is applied to indicate the severe damage and to monitor the failure modes in advance.

The power system operational reliability depends on the proper functioning of transformers. The d... more The power system operational reliability depends on the proper functioning of transformers. The decreased quality of mineral oil deteriorates the insulation of the transformer results in the failure of the transformer. Thus, maintaining the quality of the mineral oil is a severe issue for power utilities. The major cause of mineral oil deterioration is the formation of oxidative products due to the over-temperature and overloading conditions. This research paper presents an artificial intelligence-based strategy for the reduction of oxidative products by regulating the temperature level accordingly. During the various critical operating conditions, the temperature sensor measures the temperature of mineral oil. The neural network is trained to recognise the various abnormal events according to increased temperature level.

However, there used to be a general deficiency of rural energy development policies that focuses on agriculture. Agriculture has a dual role, i.e. it acts as an energy user in crops as well as an energy supplier in solar electricity generation. Rajasthan, the largest state of India, is blessed with the highest solar insolation. However, solar energy has not been fulfilled yet, predominantly in the field of the agricultural sector, where irrigation is still being done by outdated conventional methods. This paper focuses on the development of strategies to enhance solar energy use in the agriculture sector of Rajasthan state India. An intensive survey was being conducted among scientists, academicians, farmers, and government officials regarding the know-how of present policies and schemes for the different applications of solar energy in Rajasthan state India. The survey reveals that not only the farmers and rural persons but the intellectual world is also unaware of the different policies of solar program prevailing in the state. Based on the survey, various strategies have been suggested to accelerate the solar program among the rural and agriculture sectors of Rajasthan state India.

The matrix converter (MC) has recently attracted significant attention among researchers because ... more The matrix converter (MC) has recently attracted significant attention among researchers because of its applications in wind energy conversion, military power supplies, induction motor drives, etc. Recently, different MC topologies have been proposed and developed which have their own advantages and disadvantages. Matrix converter can be classified as a direct and indirect structure. This chapter aims to give a general description of the basic features of a three phase to three phase matrix converters in terms of performance and of technological issues. Matrix converter is a direct AC-AC converter topology that is able to directly convert energy from an AC source to an AC load without the need of a bulky and limited lifetime energy storage element. AC-AC topologies receive extensive research attention for being an alternative to replace traditional AC-DC-AC converters in the variable voltage and variable frequency AC drive applications.

Although the fossil fuels are easily available source of energy but they are not evenly distributed worldwide, finite resource and global environment has been significantly affected by it. Therefore, it is a major challenge for the whole planet to identify the types of potential energy sources to produce the required some of energy. Renewable energies are among the most potential sources to match the rapidly increasing global power demand. Hybrid system consisting solar and wind gives feasible solution for standalone application, as both are complimentary in nature and incorporation of the battery energy storage system increases the reliability and quality of overall system. The battery is used to store the surplus power and give back to the system when generated power is less then load requirement. This research work presents the control strategies for power quality improvement in standalone hybrid system during transient and validated through MATLAB/SIMULINK software.
