Classroom assessment is for the improvement of a learner’s diverse ability, teachers teaching str... more Classroom assessment is for the improvement of a learner’s diverse ability, teachers teaching strategies as well as improvement of entire educating system of institutions. This qualitative phenomenological study focused on the critical analysis of the classroom assessment practices with reference to 21st century learners’ competencies and assessment techniques.The data were collected from 12 faculty members of Department of Mathematics Education, Central Department of Education, Tribhuvan University. Interview schedule and participant observation were the main tools for data collection. The data were analyzed inductively in reference to the theory of scaffolding based on ZPD (Vygotsky, 1978) based on different purposes of assessment; Assessment of, assessment for and assessment as learning. Assessment is the tool that measures the quality of education. This study was focused on the stat... more Assessment is the tool that measures the quality of education. This study was focused on the status of teachers’ assessment literacy and practice in the classroom. A case study of a mixed research approach was conducted within the Kathmandu Valley selecting three schools.The questionnaire, Interview schedule, and observation checklist were the main tools. There were 27 teachers teaching fundamental subjects (Mathematics, English, Science, and Social Study) at grades IX and X were chosen for the survey and one mathematics teacher from each school was selected for interview. Two schools were selected for the observation. The constructivist theory was used to justify the finding. The result showed the high literacy status of the teachers with mean 2.63> 2 where 93.83% of teachers were known about the 18 different assessment techniques but only 66.26% of teachers apply those techniques in the classroom for assessment.

Assessment practice should be transparent and believable for all. This study intends to assess students’ and teachers’ reflection on assessment based on belief and transparency of assessment. This research is descriptive survey type standing on post positivist paradigm. The major tools of the study are questionnaire and interview. Department of Mathematics Education, Central Department of Education was the study territory. The random sample was used to select the students of third and fourth semester studying on 2076 (2020). There were 12 teachers’ 91 students involved in questionnaire and three teachers and six students for interview. The data were analyzed using weighted mean.
