📚 My Research

My primary research interest is in statistical genetics. I’m working on methods for population genetics in humans and animals and have a keen interest in admixture, selection, and polygenic risk scores.

My other focus is on social network analysis. I build and assess novel statistical models for networks of wild animals. These can be used to discover and summarise the network, find communities, predict disease outbreaks, etc. I’m particularly interested in the robustness and computational challenges involved in fitting such models.

I have also been active in several other areas of applied computational statistics, including palaeoclimate reconstruction. See my publications for more information.

Have you ever wondered how fair the coin toss actually is? Research has shown that perception of how fair the outcome is depends entirely on who led the toss. For more on this, Seán is joined by Michael Salter-Townshend, Assistant Professor of Statistics at UCD.
