This paper shares the Russian school of transdisciplinarity, which, starting in 1990, created systems transdisciplinarity and framed it as a new metadiscipline with its own meta-theory and meta-narrative. The intent is to train students in a systems transdisciplinarity worldview and mindset. Graduates would be called specialist systems transdisciplinarity generalists. Proponents drew on the Greek Philosopher Plotinus (focused on the One). The discipline's main architect, Russian engineer and philosopher Dr. Vladimir Mokiy, created the Unicentrism philosophy and formulated a collection of relevant axioms and constructs: isomorphism, One Orderly Medium, General order, units of General order, potency, prospective futurity, space, information, time, unification, generalization, and functional ensembles. The methodologies developed for this approach have been empirically validated. People educated in this metadiscipline would partake in specially designed university departments that deliver specially designed higher education curricula and methodologies. Because this metadiscipline is intended for integration into any university's organizational structure, the paper concludes with evidence supporting the proponents' assertion that systems transdisciplinarity meets the criteria of an academic discipline.

It entails outside-the-box thinking, and boundary-pushing innovations. This paper makes a case for augmenting three current home economics best practices with three vanguard next practices: (a) (eco)systems thinking with complexity thinking; (b) integrated with integral; and, (c) well-being and quality of life with the human condition, via the three systems of action philosophy, and human ecosystem theory. When scaffolded with these powerful new philosophical innovations, including transdisciplinarity, home economics professionals should be able to position themselves on the vanguard, at a time when the world needs us the most. Change is our challenge and we make change by our actions, which are informed by our philosophy.

Accepting that transdisciplinarity is a way to engage with the chaos, complexity, and uncertainty, this paper introduces the idea of transdisciplinary professionalism. Home economics is first profiled as a profession, especially a service profession. The general notion of professionalism is discussed, followed with an overview of trandisciplinarity, leading to some thoughts about what transdisciplinary professionalism might look like in Home Economics including a shared ethos, shared accountability, a focus on the issues, and cross-sector professional identities. In addition to learning what it means to be professional in our own small area of practice, Home Economists would have to learn to identify, critique and learn professionalism in collaborative relationships across professions, disciplines, and other sectors. Transdisciplinary professionalism would go a long way toward positioning the Home Economics profession as it copes with, understands, critiques, and influences postnormal times.

Ambassadors are on a mission to work on behalf of the profession in ways more substantial than tweaking images (i.e., branding and rebranding). They know that rhetoric (persuasive and effective communication), dialogue (coming to common understandings), and diplomacy (skill and tact dealing with recalcitrant or misguided people) are needed. The ambassador approach respects the longstanding concern for our professional image and shifts the discourse to our reality (here and now constraints and opportunities). An artful and strategic blend of branding, rebranding and ambassadorship is proposed as an important strategy for future proofing the profession and discipline.

You must struggle to regain your footing each time. Now imagine standing on a cement pad on the same beach. Each time the waves come in, you can feel the force of their movement and their power, but your footing is not compromised. You can stand firmly in your position.
