Sandalyeler, Dogu kayini ( Fagus orientalis L.) ve Saricam’dan ( Pinus sylvestris L.) uretilmis olup, birlestirmelerde polivinilasetat tutkali kullanilmistir. Birlestirmeler, 60x60x25, 80x80x25 ve 100x100x25 mm olculerinde ve ayni 2 agac turunden, 6 farkli kose destek elemaniyla desteklenmis, ayrica kontrol sandalyeleri hazirlanmistir. Sandalyeler, ALA (American Library Association) standardindaki esaslara gore onden arkaya devirli yukleme deneyine alinmis ve degerler tasarim yukleriyle karsilastirilmistir. Sonucta, kose destek elemanlarinin mukavemette etkili oldugu, birlestirmelerin kose destek elemanlariyla desteklenmesi gerektigi anlasilmistir. En yuksek degerler Dogu kayini ve 80x80x25 mm olculerindeki Dogu kayini kose destek elemanlariyla desteklenmis sandalyelerde bulunmustur.

Real size (1/1 scale) four sided case specimens were constructed of three different wood based panel. Corner joints of four sided cases were connected with two different ready to assemble (RTA) joint techniques including trapez and minifix fasteners. Four sided cases were anchored to the wall from side panels and top panel with L-shape metal connectors. Loading procedures of American National Standards Institute/Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association were followed during the static tests. Loads were applied from top panel’s surface with a loading strap. According to results, four-sided cases constructed of 18mm MDF showed higher load carrying capacity and stiffness values than those of 16mm MDF and 18mm PB cases. The cases assembled with trapez connectors yielded higher load carrying capacity and ...

The effects of tenon size were investigated relative to the front to back loading performance of ... more The effects of tenon size were investigated relative to the front to back loading performance of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) chairs. Forty-five chair frames were constructed with mortise and tenon joints with 9 tenon sizes. Joints were assembled with a 65% solids polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) adhesive. The front to back loading performance of chairs was compared to the acceptable design load levels given in the American Library Association (ALA) specifications. Chair frames were structurally analyzed with the Finite Element Method (FEM) to obtain the moment acting on each joint under loading. The results indicated that a chair became stronger as either tenon width or length increased, but was most affected by its length. As a result of structural analyses, front leg to side rail and back leg to side rail joints carried approximately 73% of the total moment that was induced under the front to back loading. According to the comparison results with acceptable design loads, chairs const...

A total of 120 specimens that consisted of 3 wood species, 2 treatment processes (untreated and heat-treated), 2 adhesive types (polyurethane and polyvinyl acetate), and 2 joinery techniques (mortise and tenon, and dowel) were tested, with 5 replications for each condition. Half of the specimens were constructed from heat-treated wood materials, while the remaining half were prepared from untreated wood materials (control specimens). The joints constructed from common ash and iroko exhibited the highest withdrawal force capacity values. Overall, heat treatment reduced the withdrawal force capacity of joints by 25% compared with the joints constructed of control specimens. Mortise and tenon joints yielded 4 times higher perform...

The original [real] kundekari system where pieces of geometric blocks and keel bars are interlocked through tenon-mortising and tongue-groove without the use of any nails or glue, makes the whole structure very durable. The purpose of this study was to examine properties of original [real] "Kündekari" technique and imitation applications, investigate dimensional and functional properties and analyze the system elements. To make imitation "Kündekari" panel is easier than original kündekari panel. There are three methods to imitate original technique: relief, gluing-nailing and relief-nailing with different construction properties. Deformation properties of original and imitation kundekari panels were investigated and compared with the samples. The results indicated that imitation kundekeri panels generally had some fallen decorated keelbars, cracked and split places. So imitation kundekari furniture life is short, due to moisture and hot weather. The furniture produced with original kundekari technique proved to be more durable..
