Internal waves are waves that occur on the interface between two fluids of different densities. ... more Internal waves are waves that occur on the interface between two fluids of different densities. The following paper examines internal solitary waves (ISWs) on the interface between freshwater and saltwater. From the ISWs created, images are recorded and analysised using a computer program. Measurements can be collected for lengthscale λ, amplitude a, phase speed c, and even wave shape. Each wave's measurements can then be compared to the expected value from weakly nonlinear Korteweg-deVries (KdV) theory.
